Yeah, in YoshiP's note this morning he mentioned there would be an emergency maintenance today but they didn't have a time, which seemed odd because they generally like to plan this out. I kept thinking it'd be late as possible PST and was correct.
Could have been a variety of reasons, maybe they were in the middle of validating the fixes when he wrote it and didn't setup a downtime window yet, until now.

Yeah cause having so much money from all the people wanting to play is terrible acting like it's new world dupes or something.
have a free bump. people need to see this.

So servers should be back up in about 4 hours?
Yup 10pm - 2am PST.
There may have been signs that WOW as a game was failing, but everyone expected it to keep trudging along for another expansion at least, and then maybe, if that one was bad, we might see this sort of influx. It's considered toxic in this community to complain when it's been SEVEN DAYS since people have been able to play the game because SE, who knew over a year ago this problem would occur, did not take steps to prevent it? You can't even say "oh it's covid theres no parts to make more servers". Every single launch in MMO history has had a large influx of people to try it out and servers have always been overloaded, it's very clear that they did not take steps to prevent this. You can claim they said they were doing things to try, but the fact that they waited SO LONG to even attempt steps shows how poorly this was planned. Go ahead and respond with your flames, but as someone who played wow for 15 years, has 5 level 80's (Non-boost) on GW2, a 65 on rift when it was level cap, a level 100 on DFO, among many other games. It's common sense that this was going to happen and they waited way too long, knowing full well that this would be the result.
Nobody predicted Blizzard would be unmasked and cause the entire WOW playerbase to flood to FFXIV a year into Shadowlands. I mean, seriously, get real.
No matter what people would of been mad LOL. They have been transparent that they tried and have been trying to get more servers however cant obtain any atm and that they are going to do maintenance for server stability and also hopefully going in and fixing the crashing out of que and not having your spot saved if you quickly log back in
Also this been known that EW will have really long ques lol they been warning us

You got to understand, most of the people agree with you, and think this is unacceptable how they handle this. It is just that this game has a cult, and that cult is VERY loud.
