They had these problems long before Covid struck, using Covid as an excuse is laughable. They've not invested in more servers to save as much money as possible and now this has happened they're hoping it'll blow over in a couple of weeks and that they can get away with not needing to buy more servers - it won't. If they're that desperate for more servers there's Amazon JP, or use virtual server space if they think the number of players will diminish over time so they don't have unused expensive servers gathering dust. This is just SE not willing to spend money, there really is no other valid excuse.

This post would hold more water if you actually worked at SE and on the FFXIV Dev team, so you'd actually know the inner workings.
Instead of acting like you have the solution like everyone else who doesn't actually know the situation, and so Default to Corporate Greed arguments. Or make silly posts like X-company does this, or why could SE do that. As if it would work the same and without any issues.

My wife is a developer who also plays this game. If her corporation had these exact same problems with their product, they would be sued into oblivion. I think my only complaint is the fact that it is so laborsome to log back in and that the game shuts down. Having to relaunch the launcher to log back in with PW and Number, and then if you get wall to wall Lobby Errors, you lose your place in line. I have to have a pre-arranged login set up for the inevitable 2002 error and fire it off when it happens to stay in line, or risk when I go afk for a sec being pushed to the end for the 10th time. IMHO if your in line your account should retain that place until a successful login to the game, or 1 hour has passed. Which ever comes first. Otherwise, totally acceptable and understandable as it happens.

I mean, we're playing the best MMO around, and the nearest competition is drowning in a lack of content, sea of controversy, and in general stupid decisions that are driving players to this game. No surprise it's more congested.

There's no such thing as "unavailable" to a billion dollar corporation. SE isn't willing to pay to get the hardware, which is the honest answer they won't give. They can absolutely obtain hardware just like every other gigacorp is CURRENTLY doing.
