I've made it through the que a few times now just to get dc'd upon login due to directx errors. Still can't figure out what's going on. Made sure everything was up to date did file checks on the ffxiv installation. Reinstalled from scratch. I wish my problem was d/cing during que occasionally. That would mean I'd eventually get to play. As it is now it's unplayable for me. But I'm still trying to fix whatever happened as if it's on my end, which doesn't make alot of sense since I could log in the day before launch with no issues.

Yeah but it's a suscription base game and we plaid to play I don't mind the queue but get kick out of the queue and be base on RNG to be able to log on they had month to put a grace period to keep your place in line their is nothing now in this other mmo had it in 2006 and they knew that their server would not hold on.

Yeah, the supply chain issues are prevalent in almost every market at the moment. There's some shortages going on right now that I never thought I'd see, or ones that are just straight up weird.

The only thing posts like these prove is just how many people don't understand anything about how servers and server congestion works. They can't just magically poof new servers into existence, Yoshida already make a lengthy blog post about how there is a semi-conductor shortage which means acquiring new servers right now is impossible. Then you obviously did not watch the live letter covering this. Or the info they put out covering this. They acknowledged the recent boom in players. They stated that their original intent was to deal with this after the launch, but the boom in player count has caused them to have to look at it now. Difficult since this came so close to the launch of the expac. They mentioned that CoVid caused supply chain issues. They were looking at getting more servers but there were none to purchase. They also mentioned that they were willing to pay well above retail price just to get the servers, but it didn't matter. The supply chain issues made it impossible for them. They mentioned doing all they could to fortify the servers and mitigate issues as much as possible. They also stated that there would be login issues BEFORE the expac launched but to bear with them. It's not that they didn't do anything. It's that they couldn't. They let everyone know they couldn't. They did what little they could but there was only so much they could do so close to launch.

They've not invested in more servers to save as much money as possible and now this has happened they're hoping it'll blow over in a couple of weeks and that they can get away with not needing to buy more servers - it won't. If they're that desperate for more servers there's Amazon JP, or use virtual server space if they think the number of players will diminish over time so they don't have unused expensive servers gathering dust. This is just SE not willing to spend money, there really is no other valid excuse.

From your response I can tell that you did not read 90% of my response. They were looking at doing server expansions after the expac. That was before the population boom. They said they were trying to buy servers and were willing to buy them far above market value. They COULD NOT buy servers because of a lack of servers to buy. And they can't magically poof servers into existence.

Using virtual server space (cloud) actually makes things worse. Because in order to prevent cheating, hacking, server problems, as well as storing data, instances, and all the data that's being processed and checked and pinged constantly; there needs to be physical servers (server side). Right now, there's client side (what we experience) and server side. We connect to the servers. In a cloud style, we ping to the cloud, the cloud pings to the server. This prevents data loss and integrity issues. However, You've added another point along the stream which will compound any problems they would have. As for Utilizing another company's servers; you really have no idea how business works, do you? If the game is running off of Amazon's servers and generating profit, Amazon is going to want a cut of the profits generating from what's running on their servers. A business contract dictating a ton of terms would need to be signed beforehand. If something happens at Amazon, there's nothing SE can do because it's on Amazon to solve the problem with their servers. Too many risks.

As for problems pre-Covid, login queues for congested servers were around 40ish most times during prime time. During 5.0 Launch, there were issues, but also working with a much smaller playerbase. They had only a couple months to try and procure nonexistent servers while most of the team was finishing the expansion. You would also have to account for integration, testing, on site stuff... A few months of work due to the timing. Not everything is about the money. It's about what is physically capable of being done.
