It's good business practice for profits sure. So are micro transaction and other horrible things that are ruining the gaming industry. Also this game has had notorious server problems for several years now. Most if not every MMO has rough launches cause the corp behind it doesn't want to pay too much for new hardware which will become useless once the initial hype dies down. Every MMO does that and it is a well known practice and they all say the same "We didn't expected so many players". And yes this is the case even if semi conductors would rain from the sky and covid would be healed by a miracle, why buying new servers when it goes anyways back to normal in like two weeks?
It's just good business at the end of the day, for every company that brings out MMOs.
