Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

"We're only gonna make unique hair for them" stance, cause most of these 6 look lame or outdated.

They were never going to do that, look at what they posted when they announced these.

We’d previously announced we’d be unable to add more hairstyles for Viera and Hrothgar as they are designed in a special way compared to other races. However, we saw an extreme number of requests from across the globe, so the development team set out to rework the system and finally made it possible to add more hairstyles after almost two years.

They never actually "announced this" previously or we wouldn't have been impatiently waiting and asking when the stuff they actually announced would be coming, but as it turns out they were straight up unable to add anything to either Viera or Hrothgar before they did their rework, and now the long delay makes sense.

Now that female Viera has received their rework and male Viera has it baked-in we'll see what it means going forward in terms of hairstyles, but if this is truly the best they could do I don't know if expecting they'll be able to remove the Fantasia restriction for Hrothgar is even an option.

I think I remember seeing a more recent quote by them, stating how they weren't going to do any further hairs, and then referencing these ones. Which was news to me. Maybe somebody recalls this? Might be in this thread even.

I think I just quoted that bit before I saw your post. But yeah it's not saying they're not going to do more after this, it's saying that apparently even though they told us we'd see more in Shadowbringers they're now claiming told us previously they would be unable to add more before they did this rework. Silly us for misunderstanding, right?

The work is done now so we can assume (but not expect) it won't be another 2 years, but they definitely fudged the facts about what they originally told us a bit.
