Unhappy with DC/Server choice.

Thank you. I have been playing MMO's a long time. I miss the days when in game chat was a constant wall of text. I guess maybe they will never return. Especially sucks cause I sometimes play on PS5 rather than PC. I dont want to rely on third party applications for...well, anything really. I don't understand it.

Mood. I started with EQ in 1999. I use Discord for non-game stuff but game related chat for me needs to happen in game. I have my own small FC and it does have a Discord and I chat there when I'm not in game, but I'm adamant that when I'm in game you talk to me there.

In personal experience with the game I tend to notice people playing on console using FC chat more often than those on PC. This may be due to many of the players on console not wanting to run discord or another program on a different device while playing

My FC on Marlboro sounds like more your speed. We are pretty laid back and fairly chatty in the FC chat. We use Discord, but mostly to post screenshots or keep people posted on game news/FC events (Voice chat is fairly rare, mostly for the odd raid). If you end up on Crystal data center feel free to hit me up. I’d argue that our data center is more geared towards the play style you are seeking.

You have to remember not everyone is going to be chatty 24/7 for a ton of reasons. It could be they are into other game activities, afk, working on crafters or gathers or they are just shy. Try to strike up a conversation if your not shy too in FC chat. You don't want an FC that so small it's more dead air than anything else. Find that happy medium.

Because duty finder and party finder are crossworld the specific server won't matter much, only the datacenter. Crystal DC should be more chill but I don't have much experience. And with the upcoming cross DC service even that might go away.

Sorry everyone is in such a rush. Unfortunately that's the way it goes as more servers are merged together in one anonymous community and hardcore play being more popularized by streamers

I mean, technically mine, yes. But it’s not like I saw that and instantly came here. I did tons of other research too but there wasn’t a lot of helpful information out there. I knew I did not want Aether. I thought primal would be a happy medium but it still seems a little hard for me.

Im sure thats often true. I try to start conversations in what I would describe a relatively active FC. "Hows the day? Whats everyone doing tonight? Excited for Endwalker?" Sometimes one or two replies. Often nothing for hours. But you always see these people in /s or discord. It's really odd to me.

Im starting to think this is an age issue. The past few months, those who seem to want the same things I do in the game are evidently no younger than 30 and often times much older. I need to find that thread from a few weeks ago about boomer FC's and find one of them.

It's just weird to me for all the hype about this community being great it is certainly very quiet and reserved. (and it is absolutely NOT toxic at all compared to WoW and many others. Only twice since June can I think of encountering anyone actually rude)

A lot of chat gets moved to Discord (for those FCs that have it) because you don't have to be online playing the game to talk with others in the FC, and it allows friends outside of the FC to join in as well. It passes a lot of the limitations of in-game communication.

There are still FCs that are chatty in game, though. They tend to be the midsized FCs that recruit based on a member already knowing the player (frequently real life friends and family) over those that mass recruit anyone and everyone. Most find it easier to be social around those they already know and like.

May I recommend the Crystal DC? It's pretty much known as the more Casual and RP-friendly DC in NA. It's the one I call home and I do see people chatting up a bit in major city hubs. Dungeons are still mostly people trying to clear at an efficient pace but I've also been in slower paced groups and no one's ever made a fuss about it so it may be what you're looking for.

I’m with you about Crystal DC. I’m on there as well and it’s always chatty. I am in a few linkshells and they always talking about random stuff. I had to mute them because sometimes I just wanna log on and do stuff without seeing that chat always going. I adore them and all but sometimes I like my me time hehe.

OP I would definitely check out Crystal DC. Would not recommend Primal or Aether. Definitely more serious type players there. They really don’t socialize much outside their own circles. Now I love those data centers don’t get me wrong but just saying since you want looking for more social aspect.
