Unhappy with DC/Server choice.

May I recommend the Crystal DC? It's pretty much known as the more Casual and RP-friendly DC in NA. It's the one I call home and I do see people chatting up a bit in major city hubs. Dungeons are still mostly people trying to clear at an efficient pace but I've also been in slower paced groups and no one's ever made a fuss about it so it may be what you're looking for.

This is mostly how I feel as well. In all my years in this game, I have yet to find a FC that primarily chats in-game. It's a bit disheartening as you really do end up feeling like an outcast. I don't actually mind using VC, but the times I can get on are pretty rare and so the end result is effectively the same. :/

I ended up just making a solo-FC so that silence is 100% my own doing, but I'd still love to find a chatty LS/CWL to be able to BS and have fun with people in chat. Hopefully I can find something once the expansion launches. Having people to chat and play with makes any MMO far more enjoyable.

Yeah it's hard for me to believe there isn't one out there somewhere. Im more than happy to transfer to re-level. Maybe one will see this thread

Thank you. I have been playing MMO's a long time. I miss the days when in game chat was a constant wall of text. I guess maybe they will never return. Especially sucks cause I sometimes play on PS5 rather than PC. I dont want to rely on third party applications for...well, anything really. I don't understand it.

Yeah, seems we are the same, I remember those times too and miss them. I don't get what's so bad about the in game chat, it works perfectly fine.

the only thing lost here is the fact its not the game its the people playing. our FC has a busy chat when people are on, and when people are working, people use the discord. and really, really REALLY depends on teh FC. I mean you can have a hoping FC chat, where its only 4 people... or you can be losing messages in a wall of text after doing an instance.

1. people could be pushing to get to 80, so not much time to talk
2. some people just dont like talking
3. are YOU talking when people are online? I mean someone has to start the conversations

in some FC's there is a lot of chatter, in some there arent. most chatty FC's are going to likely be smaller and friendlier, but can tend to be friends sohmight be harder to fit in. These days, there are so many reasons why FC's might not be chatty.. and one of teh biggest reasons is... no one starts a conversation.

If you can spare the money to, crystal dc is VERY casual. At least compared to other DCs. Theyre very well known for rp and being the least competitive.

Im sure thats often true. I try to start conversations in what I would describe a relatively active FC. "Hows the day? Whats everyone doing tonight? Excited for Endwalker?" Sometimes one or two replies. Often nothing for hours. But you always see these people in /s or discord. It's really odd to me.

Im starting to think this is an age issue. The past few months, those who seem to want the same things I do in the game are evidently no younger than 30 and often times much older. I need to find that thread from a few weeks ago about boomer FC's and find one of them.

It's just weird to me for all the hype about this community being great it is certainly very quiet and reserved. (and it is absolutely NOT toxic at all compared to WoW and many others. Only twice since June can I think of encountering anyone actually rude)

You just need to find an FC that suits your needs. I will say discord is nice to have as a secondary chat for scheduling content runs, events and such. Those FC's that make discord mandatory, you should steer clear of. I would suggest the Community Finder here on the official ffxiv website. Remember your not obligated to stay with any one FC if you are not happy with it. Try the other 100+ FC's that are out there, I'm sure you'll find one that feels right.
