Maybe they just needed there to be a gap where you can't use them, so you forget how ridiculously OP they are.

Trusts might have the better AI, but who cares when squadrons are absolute monsters.

Nah, Yoshi has said that he wants people to be able to move through the MSQ solo, so they'll be covering this gap eventually.

And when talking about trusts he said they've effectively replaced Squadrons because Trusts have AI.

Unless squads/trusts are going to be updated to handle trials (and Crystal Tower), solo MSQ is sounding like a lofty dream.

Might love to see it, but there are still some hurdles to it beyond this one small dungeon gap.

Edit: Also, pretty sure you can't even unlock squadrons until late ARR anyway, would need further adjustments or considerations for those early levels.
