Came back to the OF to see wtf people have to say about Viera hair news and saw this thread was popping off ...

I don't get what people don't get about "wasted resources".
How many obese people are there in the parts of the world where this game is popular? A lot in the west. Would the devs or anyone reasonable think that doing everything they would have to do to make "Dulia-Chai" playable be "worth" the time, dev strain and $$$ investment needed? Prob not worth doing that.
Same with the "No more genderlocked gear!" crowd who want everything from Neo to seasonal sets to be wearable in both gender forms for either gender, that would be twice the amount of work to end up making gear that doubles female's options but only a tiny fraction of people who play male characters would bother wearing. Not worth the headache and would be a waste of energy.

What is and isn't "worth" or a "waste of resources" is completely up to the devs, but that doesn't mean we have to act blind to the logic they would have to apply to this. .

"If the females are another hunchback race, yeah, it's a waste of resources, there's not enough people to play them to justify the work."

They said this after going on about how they would like them to look like, and they are correct in assuming that a "hunched back female" would be highly unpopular. We've got many examples from other MMOs of how "hunched back beast females" are far less popular than their males (Charr for example, a race you pointed at). Saying "might appeal to certain people" means nothing, as I could say the same about a Dulia-Chai option. Devs are the ones who have to determine what is or isn't a waste of their time, but it would be a mistake to think that they don't ask themselves, "how many people would play/ like this? Does this look good?".
I don't believe the devs have made any indication that they "want" the females to look as beastly/ hunched as the males, so IDK how anyone could label what "they" want.

Unless you are a Square Enix shareholder, theres no real reason to wring your hands over a confirmed upcoming playable gender's resources. They've already been deemed "worth" whatever resources they'd cost.

We went through this song and dance in the male Viera thread for years. They "should" be X/Y, because Y/X would be a waste of resources round and round and round. And here we are, a few weeks out of their release. Perhaps its because I recently sat through Yoshi dedicating what felt like was 3 hours talking about xiv's newest attempt at making pvp engaging makes me less inclined to worry about a beastly lady being a waste or not.
