I don't think it's much of a mystery as to why people thing F Hrothgar are a "waste of resources and time".

Well I sure am Baffled by it.
Why should 1 camp get what they want, but another camp shouldn't?
Not like we are asking for anything outlandish. And if people wanna make the argument that instead of making a new race, they should take the resources somewhere else more important...the same could be said about Viera.
Maybe we just shouldn't have gotten new races at all yknow?

Honestly, without giving out names, there are very few people genuinely against non-Miqo'te-looking female Hroths, most just seem to be trolling and taunting because it's a niche within a niche, and/or they're bored...but I guess it's also a way to keep the thread from sinking /shrug

That "Niche" is the point and pretty much the Pitch for Diversity. But overall I agree with Everything you are saying.

Whats really weird is The Viera thread gets all this support saying "Oh yeah, if people are asking for it, then its totally valid". But then here we are with the Furry Race; Hrothgar, and now its all "Wasted Resources" Its rather curious.

To be honest the male Viera thread has had really bad moments too while the fem hroth thread was pretty civil. It seems like the discussions have shifted over here xD I think the situation in the Viera thread has cooled down because we practically know everything about them. (design, height ect.)

I wish they looked like the females in Thundercats. They had a nice balance between feral and human look. They all clearly represented a kind of cat, showing their features, claws, fur with proper coloring, ears fitting the cat species, a nice hair/mane hybrid, cat eyes, but at the same time their figure was clearly human and their face was cute. They could be more muscular maybe to fit the males better. This was true for both males and females.

If the females are another hunchback race, yeah, it's a waste of resources, there's not enough people to play them to justify the work.

I dunno. I played Charr because of the authentically bestial, hunched aesthetic. It's different and I enjoy different. There are many 'straight-backed' races you can stick with. Why not have one that isn't?

I also don't get the 'wasted resources' opinion. Is it a wasted resource because it's not your cup of tea? Because it's certainly mine design-wise.

Creating a new race in FFXIV is a major pain.
Every piece of equipment in the game includes the character model as well. Gloves include the hands, shoes include the feet and so on. This means every piece of equipment in the game is manually adjusted to fit the character model. It's a huge amount of work, thousands of items, and each new race adds a ton of extra work for all future sets.

Creating a new playable character model which in the end will be played by a small minority is a wasted resource that could be used to develop other stuff that's much more needed in the game.

From my 17 years of experience playing mmo's I can safely say that hunchback models are disliked by the majority. For example once they added a straight posture to the orcs in wow, hunchbacks pretty much vanished. Or you can look at how much less posts there are in this topic vs Viera male.

Then at that point they should only have just made male Viera and told the Hrothgars to suffer in silence in their present state.

Just because they're a minority doesn't mean they deserve to be completely discounted. The modern world tries to encourage fairness and this game is meant to cater to a multitude of diverse players.

Interestingly enough, your argument has been used to discourage Ultimate, Savage and Extreme from being made since only a minority go through the content. Also I don't care about your 17 years - it doesn't render my four years as an MMO player irrelevant.

The „why don‘t you just play a „straight-backed“ might not work for everyone I’d say, because I also enjoy to play more beast like races (would‘ve played a Hrothgar if they were more akin to original Ronso).
I just don‘t like hunched races. I didn‘t really like trolls in WOW but loved zandalari trolls, just because they had a straight back. I love their addition nonetheless, it‘s just „hunching“ is a killer for me and other people but I enjoy seeing them around and am happy that other people enjoy them!
Nontheless i respect SE‘s direction, it‘s their game and their design choices. I‘m already excited to see how the females turn out to be.

Fair. And I respect your opinion. At this point it's purely up to speculation. I'll make do whether they're hunch-backed or not; so we'll see what FFXIV decides.

get over it man niche or small minority argument is moot especially after Yoshi.p said during last live letter they want to expand 14 variety in many ways and even making stuff for smaller communities of the game is important to the games success.
entire point of Hrothgar was to fill that niche for beast like race they only split them because they figured this was there last chance to add something.
