Mansions need to be relocated

I wouldn't be opposed to them making some new neighborhoods size-specific, such as only Large plots, and giving people with those sized plots the chance to relocate there before they get opened up for purchase. I personally like seeing L, M, and S plots in each neighborhood and wouldn't want to force everyone who currently has a plot to relocate to the size-specific ones. It's pretty obvious though that people will buy or relocate to a plot of a certain size regardless of location/view just to have that size plot. Why not give them a chance to move to a different plot with a view that appeals more to them and give people without houses the chance to buy the plots that open up in the current neighborhoods?

Once all the people who want to relocate have, say after two weeks or so, open the remaining plots up for purchase/relocation by other people. This way current home owners get a chance at a more visually desirable plot, people have the opportunity to upgrade plot size via relocation, and those without houses will have the chance to purchase plots; either those in the original neighborhoods that open up or in the new neighborhoods if they're not all taken by the original relocators.

1. What I mentioned isn't wholesale redesign of all neighborhoods, but design new ones to be added at the same time as new "standard" neighborhoods.

2. I don't own a house so relocation isn't currently an option and given the probability I'll be able to buy any plot, regardless of location, I likely won't be relocating any time soon either.

To be honest, I'm happy with my apartment and what Island Sanctuaries sound like they're going to be. I used to own a house and landscaping the outside was much more fun than decorating the interior. If I'm able to do a wholesale landscape of an Island Sanctuary I'll be happy, even if I can't go into the buildings.

Fortunately, it's not something you need to worry about unless SE decides to scrap wards completely and I doubt they'll ever do that.

This sounds ridiculous but I do wish they can make the plot upgradable inside, so those who got small plot can have medium interior or those who got medium plot can have mansion interior.

YoshiP has said in the past that housing memory isn't designed to allow for apartments to get upgraded when asked about the possibility. I imagine the same would hold true for house interiors since they're also instanced. Personally I find it jarring to walk into an interior that is visually larger in size than the exterior. We already that problem with the Smithy Walls skin and it will be a problem with the new skin with a veranda being added in Endwalker.

On the other hand, I don't see why players can't be given an option to choose the size at time of purchase since the interior is instanced while the exterior isn't. There's no upgrade involved in that, it's a purchase decision that could be irrevocable short of relinquishing and buying a new plot. Why must the entry portal map to a specific size instead of the entry portal simply mapping to what the player owns?

I actually agree with the OP. Most the houses in this game with best views are, for some reason, S-sized, like Mist 19-21, Goblet 14-20 (except 19 being a Medium), LB 9/29, Shirogane 3, etc.
I'm lucky enough to own one of those (before the housing big bang), but when I was looking into upgrading to a M/L, there're just *so few* choices that have a comparable view - so few that makes me think if it's a trade-off between the size and the view.
As the OP said, there *are* good M/L houses, but they're sort of the minority. The views are especially bad for most M houses, which are very frequently put right in the centre of other houses.
Some of these unfortunate houses actually have theoretically really good locations, but for access reasons I suppose, they face the "wrong" direction which completely wastes their potential, e.g. LB 28.

Although I agree that the biggest problem with housing now is its supply, at some point a rework of the M/L houses would make it a better experience.
