Meanwhile the Scions are fighting on behalf of living people, both the people they love and even the people they don't personally or necessarily, not just the memory of justice for long dead people, and yet you consider them evil. That view of morality just makes no sense to me.

It's called being an edgelord but trying to justify it beyond simply wanting to be one. Because multiple global genocides to maybe get back people that are long gone or a thousand year war of vengeance against people that no longer exist is what good guys do apparently. Initial motivations matter yes but doesn't make present actions justifiable. But I have a feeling OP is just trying to ruffle feathers.
