Why can't we all have a House?

I am sort of being held "hostage" to keep my sub for my house. Like, I'm not really using it too often currently, as I still need to level up crafters and stuff to properly decorate it, but if I give it up I kind of doubt I'll get one again. I mean, sure there would be some sort of lottery system, but I never win those, and I don't ever see myself clicking at a placard for hours again, or really caring enough to randomly click at placards for weeks or months. I need the house to house transfer if a better plot opens up and I can afford it. It's not as big of a deal, since I'll stay subbed for forum usage, but it is kind of annoying. It'd be great if they could make a proper instance housing system at some point.

That's no longer the case in Endwalker. Existing house owners also have to wait for an empty plot to be fully available.

Ah, so everyone will have the same chance at a larger house? Maybe I could dump the house one day then. Their lottery system didn't sound that ideal last time I saw info on it. Not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. Still, it's better to have a house than not probably. It'll still be pretty difficult to get one on a more populous server no doubt. It was an achievement just getting this one to begin with.

Because housing in this game has long been strangled by the sunken cost fallacy.

They designed a system meant for a relatively niche audience, never having intended for it to be a mainline feature. When it proved exceedingly popular, they scrabbled to keep the same design but adapt it to suit the growing demand. They likely deemed it too expensive or time consuming to start over at some point along the way and thus kept adding onto the resource pit when I new system should have been implemented years ago as it became clear neighborhood housing wouldn't be sustainable.

The somewhat frustrating thing about this is they do tend to repeat these mistakes in other systems too. The glamour system has the exact same issue.

Plain and simple.
Like a few people in this thread has mentioned the community has spoken.
It's a sight that kills the joy if you are into wanting a house when you step into a neighbourhood that is being owned by a bot/person/thing who is only doing it to earn gil's.
It was a small relief when we finally received a tool so we could start to report when we suspected there was a bot behind but it hasn't fixed the main problem.
Lotro had the same problem although it was more that people who left and locked down the houses so the remaining gamers could not "move in" to the same neighbourhood to join their friends.
When they finally fixed it the majority had already left (me included).
No the ftp did not fix it either it , it only made it worse.
I am one of many active gamers in FFVIX who is looking forward to see how the lottery in EW will change all of this and no i only see this fair that active paying customers should be allowed to get the rights to fight for a house.
They should have done this a long time ago.
One house for each paying customer should be fair.
I am going to wait for EW and hope for the best

Why was houses more used back in 2013-2015 then? Nothing really changed in terms of what you can do at a house since then.

Not everyone can have a house but it doesn’t help when I see 1 person own an entire ward. How they do it I dunno.

You can own 8 houses per account so if you have multiple ones, it stacks up.
