6.0 Story Speculations

Trailer thoughts:

That flower in the trailer "The Lady of the Light" gives us seems like it's screaming for its petals to fall throughout the story considering she says that it represents our conviction. She even partially quotes Answers so I guess there's not much doubt she's Venat unless there's a crazy twist.

Crystal pathways suggest we visit the Mothercrystal directly. Feel like that's where we'll hear her side of the story and we'll get some Emet-like flashbacks to the Final Days.

Who is that creepy young voice asking to take our burden? Suspicious.

Some of the Final Days creatures in Thavnair have elephant heads, so I guess there's a similar situation to the Sin Eaters where people, including beastmen, are corrupted into these things.

Angry blue-haired Garlean boy feels like he'll have a story about fighting us because one or both of his parents were Garlean soldiers killed by the Eorzean Alliance or even us. Almost feel like he'll be connected to Anima, but that might just be because of his hair color.

Zenos baits us into fighting him because we're "defender of the star" but that's no surprise to anyone.

Zodiark and his prison finally make an appearance. Looks plenty creepy but I was expecting creepier.

LL thoughts on Pandaemonium

Asphodelos refers to the Fields of Asphodel, the part of Hades that isn't good or bad, Souls just.. exist there. They're not good or bad souls, they're just wandering the Fields doing nothing. What Yoshida showed seems like the Entrance to the Underworld, what with the cages.

Alph empathizing with Garleans. Good stuff. Not fighting anymore, more important things to worry about.

Is the blue-haired Garlean youth some kind of Seymour analogue, Nerva, or both? What about the unhelmeted guy in Bergan armor?

Some pretty cool looking dungeons, like the Aetherial Sea and a nightmarish hellscape.

Magus Sisters and Anima all but confirmed as Trial bosses.

Def looks like we're getting Hydaelyn / Venat's side of the story. Good, good.

Sounds like Danny Boy was just talking out his ass, and his goal is actually still the Rejoining. Not terribly surprising tbh, but points for trying.

What exactly are you picking this up from? I didn't see anything that changed my opinion on the latter and got the opposite vibes on the former, in fact was surprised by how the opposite was for the first point.

So the German trailer (and possibly the other trailers, judging by how different English tends to be in the game) actually has a massively different line towards the end when the WoL looks up at Hydaelyn:

"Do you really want to destroy such a beautiful world?" - Emet-Selch

For the second... we really didn't see the Magus Sisters I guess, but we did get a scene of Anima preparing to use her super move from X (Oblivion).

The Magus Sisters were in there, just in their dungeon battle soon, but I don't think anyone was doubting Anima was gonna be a trial.

Also, is that

the Whispers from FFVII Remake (aka the infamous 'Time Jannies') I spy flying over that flaming hellscape (original Star during the Terminus, or a current zone being subjected to the same thing) in the trailer? Does that mean my headcanon is... CONFIRMED?! *mind blown*

Ahem... probably not, but probably just a reused model for the coolness factor.

EDIT: and, rewatching the trailer, it seems I jumped to conclusions too quickly - they certainly have the same animation

of the Whispers in FFVIIR,

but looking at them more closely they appear to be instead the 'Terminus Seer' things shown in the CG trailer and repeated throughout the new trailer as well, rather than the

Whispers.

So, I guess my headcanon remains as simply that again.

Random Observations:

There's a blue haired Garlean who looks like he'll be important. Perhaps he is Lord Nerva? There's also another Garlean, seen only from behind, standing in the train car. He's another candidate for Lord Nerva. Given his location, it seems he's in charge of looking out for the survivors within Garlemald itself.

Emet-Selch is present. Whether it's just an Echo vision or something similar, I don't know - but it's good to see that he'll be playing a part in the story for a bit longer.

What looks suspiciously like the Garlean symbol is present above the doorway in the zone briefly shown off with statues and gothic aesthetics.

Venat/Hydaelyn is as vague as ever. She seems a lot more aloof than Emet-Selch. I think we'll see the player character meet up with her a few times and perhaps even travel with her for a bit, learning her perspective and thoughts. Of course, that doesn't mean that goals and opinions will necessarily align. We shall have to wait and see.

It looks like the final zone may very well be some sort of 'underworld/aetherial sea' type deal. Not entirely unsurprising and it makes for some creepy but eerily beautiful aesthetics which I'm pleased to see.

I'll have to watch it a few more times when I'm more awake but that's the stuff that stood out to me the most.
