Funnily enough, everytime I see someone quotin Kratos in chat after something like "mb, sorry", mostly in learning parties, all I can think is "Wow, how didn't they thought about it". Like, the person who apologized acknowledged it was their fault, in most cases they are cautious about what they're doing and trying to improve, and snarky commentary ain't helping. But I guess it all depends on sincerety of initial "sorry".

... This.. is not even remotely related to the initial quote about someone's search info making it clear they play a lot of jobs - and have thus likely been playing the game a fair while - and still aren't making efforts to improve or even look up job guides for stuff they hit 80 on.

If they've played that long and have that much stuff leveled, and they keep saying "sorry for being a bad player", then why not try to just improve instead? Not knowing content is one thing, but not knowing the bare basics of their job at level 80 is not excusable just because they said "sorry" (and probably didn't actually mean it anyway).

But hey, feels like you came in with a clear bias, so I won't really spend a lot of time trying to explain the obvious. Also no idea what you mean by "quoting Kratos" - I've never played GoW? Not to mention said I think that when I see it, not say it. Feels like the same energy as "typical WoW player".

Don't take it like I'm trying to argue or something, that's not my intention. I'm not trying to attack your take on a situation and I'm sorry if it came out that way. I simply find it funny that "don't be sorry, be better" can be used in a very different ways.

I agree, if someone is puttin "sorry for being a bad player" in a serch info, they're most likely full of themselves and not interested in improving in any way. In which case, telling them to do better probably won't change a thing.

No worries - just often hard to discern someone's intentions when they come in at the tail end of a discussion like that.

I usually only think that when I see people with it in their search info, or see them actively refusing to play properly (with many max level jobs, to boot) only to say "sorry for being bad" when someone says something, or they just feel like someone's judging them. People who are attempting to learn and improve with a new fight, or taking advice and visibly trying (even if not always successful), are fine.

Hells, I tend to say "sorry" when I mess up something I know how to do. If you ever catch me vercuring myself after taking avoidable damage, it's because I feel ashamed I screwed up and don't want the healers to waste a gcd on me. qvq

Understandable, especially considering how it usually goes on forums.

Yeah, I agree. Messing up in itself ain't bad, insisting you're not messing up when you do and refusing to improve is a whole other thing.

And to the main topic of DF shenanigans.
Was running Amarout on DRK with a friend who haven't played since 5.3 and messed up rotations, first timer RDM who didin't aoe on packs and was trying to run away with tethered mobs and a WHM who tried their best, but was tired as all hell. Needles to say it took some time, but generally was a stady run. Exept the last boss.
People dropped so many times, both RDM and WHM run out of mana before they both dropped from a stage due blinding mechs. Here I was, 17% on the boss and no safe spots from Apocolypse, cuz we all runned to diferent platforms everytime. Jumping and starting over would've been a wiser disicion, but nooo, I was a little angry and thought I'll get the boss on my own. I almost did. =\
First Apocolypse I live on LB. Managing DCDs and due to Souleater crits, I get myself up to 60% before second one. Alas, TBN backed up with Rampart didn't do it. Living dead won me some time, but it expired before I could finish the bastard. It was on 0.2%. One more hit probably would've been enough. Biggest heartbreak of last months, tbh.
But, hey, we got him second time with no problems and no deaths at all. Had a good laugh with a party after.

If you feel such a need to apologize for how poorly you're playing - ironically or not - then why not take the initiative to actually seek improvement and learn your jobs better? You clearly know, to some degree, that your poor play is a burden on other people you get matched with... so why keep perpetuating it and being fine with remaining that way?

I know the answer, obviously - but I still can't help thinking it.
I'll frequently say sorry if I mess up, and I actually mean it. Not everyone is being disingenuous.

It's like you didn't even bother to read either the original quote, nor any of the subsequent posts after this one you quoted.

The BLM in my run (the post Kaoru first quoted) never said sorry from messing up the mechs. The sorry word is from her intro in search info. Not that I’d expect people to type anyway, since some do have difficulties to type.

So I've been running Amaurot to get my moogle tomestones. Today I had a weird group. Wouldn't say it was the worst run ever because at least we cleared, but oh boy was it frustrating. Queue'd as AST. Got a GNB tank and a SAM and DNC for DPS. Got the new player message. Which is fine. Tank proceeded to do large pulls, which is also fine. However, he felt so squishy. I had to spam heal him during trash to the point where I was constantly running out of MP on trash. DPS also felt low compared to what I was used to. First boss went fine, no issues. Second boss I could really feel the low DPS. You know how he bursts if you don't do enough DPS at the end? Well, if the SAM hadn't used the LB, he would have fully burst. But we managed to get it. Trash on the way to the last boss went the same, I was running out of MP keeping the tank alive. Last boss we had the SAM die once or twice and the DNC died twice. The DPS was so low that we ran out of platforms to stand on for his beam attack. We were all dead except the tank so the tank had to solo the last few percentage points on the boss. He used tank LB1 to stay alive, but he managed to do it. Looked up each player after, the GNB was in full exarchic gear, so his gear wasn't the problem. DNC was also in all crafted 80 gear, so she was fine. The SAM was not fine. He had a level 78 weapon, gloves and head piece, a level 75 bracelet, and I think a level 79 necklace. No wonder why the dps was so low...

Finished that dungeon many times just fine when it was new and we weren’t over-geared. SAM had 415 weapon etc. in a 410-440 dungeon and it sounds like everyone else was synced to 440. Aside from accessories the gear is all above requirements even if 410 was the min and not the average. To me it seems like a rotation / cooldown problem.
