Zack, in the off chance you see this thread, I'm sorry to read of your loss. You have my deepest condolences. It is clear your mother is a wonderful woman for whom you love deeply.

The absolute state of this thread.... is it really worth acting like a ghoul just to have hot take on the Internet?
Sometimes silence is the best option.
Experiencing death of someone you loved so intensely is a pain like no other. It is something I have experienced as well and fear as those things I love around me (pets, friends, family) grow on in years. He has my condolences.I don't entirely disagree I don't like the celebrity worship either I find a lot of it to be extremely deranged and creepy.
However it does affect most people when they feel some sort of personal connection to the other person.
If there's an author you love who dies most people will feel more about that than if someone they've never interacted with down the block who they've said hello to once dies.
To me this isn't about celebrity worship, it's not BECAUSE he's popular.
It's because I've watched his streams and heard a lot of stories about his mom and knows how much she meant to him and the sacrifices he made for her, and how a lot of people got into FFXIV because of him and the game got more deserved attention.
To a lot of people he has affected their lives positively more than their neighbour or someone living in the same block has.
I think that some of you are getting a bit hung up on this being a popularity contest, it's not about popularity at all at least not to me.
Personally, this is a post that should have probably been written to him directly (his own platforms like twitch or youtube ?) rather than here. This is probably why it comes off as a bit insincere. Most can empathise with these events, but that's not the problem. Because of his popularity/celebrity status there will always be conflict in deciding how to react. I understand why you would post this, but honestly, this is something best left to that person's personal medias.

I've already explained this I dunno how many times now.Experiencing death of someone you loved so intensely is a pain like no other. It is something I have experienced as well and fear as those things I love around me (pets, friends, family) grow on in years. He has my condolences.

I thought it was very obvious that this was to bring awareness and not directed towards Asmon.
If you'd actually read my OP again with that in mind it should be very obvious.
I linked to his Tweet but not everyone has Twitter and may want to leave it here and pay some respect.
People did the same when Miura died and no one had a problem with it, and people have been gathering ingame in this case too.
It's the same when other people die or suffer loss who have some level of relevance to a community even if it's small, people will talk about it it's not like this is about a Fortnite streamer with no connection to FFXIV.
Even if you just started watching him when he began playing FFXIV shortly after the situation with his mom got worse so you'll be aware of it and the effect it had.
This isn't even getting into the overlap either, I've played FFXIV since ARR and I still watched Asmongold play WoW he's relevant to a lot of us.
If you want to talk about insincerity in regards to celebrity death this is not the thread to do it, that should be common sense to anyone but apparently it isn't.
If you want to talk about it make a thread about it or talk about it in the off topic thread.
Doing it here is just cruel and extremely inappropriate.

Yes, I have played XIV since the beginning of HW and was a long time WoW player myself and also watched Asmongold before he started XIV. Why is this such a specific point to make ?I've already explained this I dunno how many times now.

I was simply proffering some insight, but it's quite obvious this is very close to your heart. Genuinely, I do hope you feel better soon. Death isn't something easy to process.
Ingame memorial holiday event when?
Yeah, that's probably as close as something like this is going to get officially. It's a nice event meant for reflection over the past year. Answers: Reprise always hits me hard. I use the Rising as a bit of a yearly remembrance of things/people lost and gained, which I'm guessing was what they intended it to be, at least partly, within the scope of the game.
What's interesting is that the event that happens right before that (The Moonfire Faire) roughly lines up with Japanese Obon dates, which is the event to honor spirits of ancestors, though Obon itself is 2-3 days long, not 2 weeks. So I would say that both Moonfire Faire and The Rising more or less serve this purpose (first by dates, second by meaning) even tho otherwise they're just summer/autumn festivals and anniversary events.Yeah, that's probably as close as something like this is going to get officially. We probably wouldn't get anything other than that, mostly because different countries have quite different time periods for such memorial events (if have it at all), and FF14 mostly seem to hold either world-wide common holidays (Easter, Halloween, New Year, Valentine) or those that are more Japan specific (Little Ladies aka Dolls/Girls day, Heavensturn aka rough analogue of Eastern New Year though it doesn't line up with those by dates).
Lost my mom 3 years ago when she was 59. Cancer.
Losing a parent is rough, especially when they die young.
Bleh.
