Judge players not on their gaming background, but by their personal background and attitude. Also, foster an environment that is accepting and accomdating. WoW is a very different kind of game with different mechanics. Some of them will struggle. That's fine.

XIV Players try not to be tribalistic challenge (DIFFICULT)
Playing devil's advocate here (again, 16 years in WoW, 4 months in XIV so I have some right to talk here) the WoW community is hot garbage. It's not just a generalization, it's like a super majority (though not everyone of course) It was nothing to be told daily in WoW, sometimes multiple times a day in that game to uninstall and/or kill yourself. Public trade chat filled with racist, homophobic xenophobic garbage 24 hours a day. Not just sometimes, but like all day, every day on servers like Area 52, Ilidan, and Stormrage.

The worst I've seen in this game is a "omg whats wrong with you" and things along those lines.

The fear of not wanting this game and/or it's community to be infected with WoW is in my opinion very valid, and as a WoW refugee myself, a fear that I share.

I migrated from WoW shortly after Siege of Ogrimmar came out, so yes, I feel you on being afraid of the WoW sentimentality. I don't like it any more than the next person.

I just don't see a lot of gain from assigning them these little archetypes. It's fine to be averse. Just don't like the aversity become adversity.

The more popular the game gets the more chances you have to run into players you don't get on with.

Absolutely. Toxic behavior needs to be called out and dealt with when seen not just former WoW players. We don't need to pre-emtively assume someone played WoW if they are toxic, or that they will be toxic if they played WoW. But Id be lying if I said it wasn't something to keep in the back of ones mind.

There is a reason this game was recently nominated for best online community. It's something to be cherished and protected.

I laugh out loud when I see someone get upset in game about being called a poopie head or something minor. Im just like "wow you dont know how good you got it here."

Have you taken the time to stop and think that maybe the problem is you?

There are two common denominators in this scenario.

1: People who have played another game.
    2: You.

Are you sure you're not instigating and provoking them?

A lot of people in this game feel it's their duty to educate and teach people how to play "their" game. I get a lot of unsolicited advice from people that think just because I haven't been playing as long as them, that I must be an idiot that can't figure it out. They feel it's up to them to then give me the up and down on something I didn't ask for.

Remember, context and tone can be hard to read over text. Toxicity comes in all forms to all kinds of people. What you might see as helpful might come off as condescending to someone else.

And from the sound of your attitude, you don't see this as "our game". You see it as "your" game, and then there are the WoW players who are just in it.

You might want to take a step back and look at how you interact with people in this game. Maybe put your preconceived prejudices aside for a bit and not automatically think of them with disdain.

Changing the way you look at people will go a long way to changing how people look at you.

Not sure how much I can believe this. How do you get lost in a XIV dungeon? They're all straight lines, also WoW actually encourages fast play in its dungeons so it'd be quite strange for one of them to be complaining about people going too fast.

Also the 2nd example is something that happens in FFXIV more than any other game and probably doesn't have anything to do with WoW. This is the only game I've seen with people who don't read chat and do their own thing, and I've seen it for years.

If someone wants WoW, they should go back to WoW and leave this beautiful game alone.
Yoshi-P is (or was) a WoW player, and a large contributing factor to FFXIV 1.0's terrible everything was that the developers had no experience with any other MMOs aside from FFXI. One of the things Yoshi-P had members of his team do was play MoP (among other games). So really, the only reason this game exists at all today is because they had to make it more like WoW to function.

Been in multiple groups lost in either Stone Vigil or Stone Vigil (hard) not sure which it was. In fairness everyone in those groups were new or relatively new.

Yoshida and his devs played Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria. The WoW that exists today is miles different from the WoW that they played. WoW back then was pretty great, especially during Mists of Pandaria. That game no longer exists.

Sadly there will always be a toxic element of WoW players who try FF who are just going to moan and complain.

It comes down to one sad fact. They still love WoW.

Because of that they will go out of their way to pretty much ruin any chance they have of enjoying FF. I've had convos with WoW players who have told me how much the FF story sucks but then also in the same sentence admit they skip every cutscene and chat dialog they can to speed run to max level. Others will say how the community in FF is toxic yet seemingly can never provide any examples. "The RP is disgusting" while they ignore the RP that very clearly happens in WoW too.

As an Ex WoW player I dread meeting them, and it's posts like this that in a sense make me upset to even be associated with WoW.

That's really impressive. That dungeon has a couple dead end rooms but it only takes 2 seconds to identify it as such. Still a pretty linear dungeon.

Only place I could see it happening is totorak, if someone completely lacked a sense of direction.
