My Horrible experience with most (not all) WoW players in FFXIV so far

I think it does the whole community a great disservice to stereotype people who have decided to give FFXIV a try and just happened to be from another game. It is totally incorrect to say WoW players are like xxxxxxxxx just as much as it is to say FFXIV players are like yyyyyyyyyy.

Peddling stereotypes in RL and online gaming is just wrong - stop.

I may happen to play FFXIV now but I have also played WoW, SW:TOR, ESO, LOTRO, EQ, EQII, SWG, UO, DAOC (and more I have forgotten) - I do not care what background the players came from just how they are in the here and now.

There is just this like.. primal fear, of the big bad 'WoW player'. That has really cemented itself within many in the FFXIV community and playerbase. I actually don't think I've ever seen so much tribalism in any other online mmorpg I have played. Believe it or not, a lot of the players here even before the most recent exodus from WoW, were former WoW players, heck many still went back to WoW for expansion releases.

OP been here since the start and also have been a WoW player and what you just described also fits the description of everyday FFXIV players. And honestly your assesment on WoW players are not very accurate if you are going to put them into two groups. I have met some WoW players that are some really amazing people.

Honestly this WoW bashing has been going on in the forums for many years now and quite frankly it is a little irritating. Most people who make these claims probably never have played the game but let's be honest here, these days everyone is offended over the slightest thing.

I think just making a blanket statement like the OP's post is harmful to both FF14's and WoW's communities. No reason to label all players with a quick stroke of a nasty brush.

Quite a lot of people in FFXIV have played WoW at some point. The game has had over 100 million registered accounts and the MMO scene isn't exactly a booming genre. Which means the OP has likely met some exceptional, well behaved and polite ... ex WoW players and hasn't and probable will never know that they did.

I've met quite a lot of WoW players in FFXIV and I've found them to be mostly chill and easy going *shrugs*

I'd like to chime in as a possible third type. I played WoW for 16 years until this past June. You would say I came over with the most recent wave of WoW refugees. Im bad at games but I still love them. I will probably never do or even an attempt an extreme or savage. I just level jobs and do MSQ and mess around with performance on bard. Im kind of an ultra casual who never fit in well on WoW. Final Fantasy XIV so far has been kind of "everything I wanted WoW to be" for years. I am never rude or insulting in game. I always have the text chat " hi first time im new" ready to go. I have severe social anxiety and am using this game to help me overcome it. Anyway, I may not be an amazing player and people often disagree with my opinions on certain things on these forums, but please know some of us just want to have fun and not bother anyone.

That said, OP you are right actually. I get very defensive and will fight anyone who asks for systems or policies that I have seen lead to toxicity in WoW, such as mythic+, third party tools that interface with the game, and PvP. If someone wants WoW, they should go back to WoW and leave this beautiful game alone.

Judge players not on their gaming background, but by their personal background and attitude. Also, foster an environment that is accepting and accomdating. WoW is a very different kind of game with different mechanics. Some of them will struggle. That's fine.
