Are the Skysteel Tools meant to be practically impossible?

Thanks for the information. Now I wonder why I spent all that time collecting scrips. Was pleased to have something that didn't require gil for once. Guess I need to find a moneymaking enterprise lol. Why would they make scrip gear non meldable? DX

Handsaint gear doesn't need materia slots. It's sufficient for everything except Expert. Expert was designed specifically for crafters who use the most current pentamelded HQ gear.

You can get minimum rating needed on the final Skybuilder Tool stage using full Handsaint (2606 Craftmanship, 2454 Control, 507 CP) with HQ Chili Crab and HQ Cunning Syrup. It means making more items than would be needed if you took advantage of conditions as they occur but you'd still be able to get your tool.

As a side note, you should also be able ot make your own HQ Aesthete gear using your Handsaint gear if you decide you want to go to the effort. If you can't gather what you need yourself, many of the materials are fairly cheap on the MB now.
