Are the Skysteel Tools meant to be practically impossible?

Thanks for the information. Now I wonder why I spent all that time collecting scrips. Was pleased to have something that didn't require gil for once. Guess I need to find a moneymaking enterprise lol. Why would they make scrip gear non meldable? DX

Because they use the script gear as a "catch up" mechanic, to let those who are behind the curve collect the easily obtainted scrips and get back to the point where they can then craft the gear needed to catch up.

Yeah, that is a point. Unfortunately then the Skysteel Tools will probably become obsolete too.

That's true with all gear in just about any MMO. Eventually new items get added with superior stats and previous gear gets replaced. For this game, it's about an 8 month cycle for replacement and we're down to less than a month before the cycle begins again (unless the player doesn't have plans to purchase the expansion for a while).

It works fine for the majority of gear since it's generally gained through normal game play. You're usually not going to extra effort to acquire a piece (short of farming a specific item for glamour). For relics (whether weapons or tools), the length of grind is worth a second look. Will the amount of use you get from the relic in the long run be worth the effort?

Is there something like that for the skysteel that I've managed to miss?

Yeah, I probably won't do any more relics. Just wanted the achievement really, but it's not going to be worth repeating.

At this point in time, I don't think it's worth pentamelding level 80 gear when we're three weeks away from going up to level 90.

My pentamelded BiS level caped gear so far has always carried me through the next expansion. I mean like 50 got me to 60 and then I had to upgrade for 3.1 etc. Rinse, repeat, every expansion so far.

Sure, if you already have your BiS stuff then it will carry you through the next ten levels.

But that alone isn't a reason to get pentamelded stuff right now when less powerful gear will probably be enough. At most, maybe they need to pay for one set of level 85 gear along the way instead of being able to get all the way to 90. But you can also level through other paths like custom deliveries that don't need top level gear at all.

Custom deliveries are what I use to level + GC turn ins and Firmament turn ins.
