I did it for the minion. The tournament is easy to win because nobody does it and can give a lot of MGP like 100,000.

It’s ok for some mgp. Just spam the gooboo fight 5 times for the challenge log. Gets you about 25k mgp for like 5minutes work. All you need to do is spam a minion and kill gooboo. Easy mgp

It's literally like Gin Rummy; you just make pairs and suits and runs.
There's many excellent YouTube videos for people that A) Don't read Chinese characters, and B) don't know thing 1 about mahjong. Like myself, a couple months ago.
This one is perfect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pka0nVIahb0 ("A Chill Mahjong Tutorial for Beginners"). Starting from absolute zero I left this video with a solid understanding of the basics and enough knowledge to get into it in FFXIV. If you can see and match shapes, and count groups of shapes, you can grasp Mahjong to the extent needed to play casually, here in FFXIV or in real life.

No OP, as a controller user I don't play the minion game.
RTSes are really weird and pretty frustrating to play on a controller, and my introduction to the genre was StarCraft64! I should be used to it!
Verminon is one of those examples where they should have just done what WoW did and made a pokemon copy. Pet battles in WoW were great content. For Verminion, the devs decided they had to be unique and create something entirely new and the result is a failed idea.
Personally I'm not sure why they don't just scrap it, learn from the mistake and make Pet Battles.
This. You can just do the NPC tournament battle and instantly forfeit at the start of each game for 10 points, then repeat 15 times. Very easy MGP, only because no one does Verminion so your 150 points gives you a high placement.
