Possible, yes. Likely, no.

As much as the devs complain about spaghetti code from the cataclysm that was the ARR reboot, I really doubt they will add additional information to items and emotes for sorting purposes beings they already complain about the data transfers being too big as is for characters changing zones/instances and adding this would increase the load a bit more.

I mean it wouldn't need anything just for emotes for example

Personal sort in the emote menu would be we sort it ourself and it remembers it permanent.

For retainer i dont think a sort by expansion would be to diffucult

The servers are what 8 years old and they take time to render all items as it is. So a sort function would put additional load on the server. Remember that sort wouldn't be just you using it but millions of more commands to the server which will slow it down. That is what another person said in this thread. Sure it would be nice to have but I think the additional load it would create might affect other systems. This game isn't new so after 8 years I am sure they have a handle on what is and isn't possible with their own game.
