Mentors have been a meme here, on reddit and everywhere else for a very long time, the vast majority of them are completely useless and shouldn't be one in the first place

If people have the exact opposite opinions about what a good mentor is, then it's impossible to be one. No wonder they get memed so much.
I have to say the game got a lot more enjoyable for me after I stopped volunteering my knowledge and carrying people through fights they aren't prepared for. Just like I've been told, newbies don't want the help either so this is great for everyone involved. As unbelievable as it sounds, hunt trains are a lot less drama compared to the DF and they even give more tomestones. Maybe a tiger too.

Exactly why I practice what I preach. I am not a mentor (lol imagine), I don't bother with the Novice Network, I do not volunteer advice, and I don't subject myself to extremes with pugs. Life is bliss.I have to say the game got a lot more enjoyable for me after I stopped volunteering my knowledge and carrying people through fights they aren't prepared for. I feel like I've derailed the thread a bit so I'll comment on this. You should be using Storm's Eye and all of your cooldowns. It costs nothing to do that. If you didn't die, the healer healed you enough. More healing wouldn't have made a difference so it would have been a waste. The spamming of damage spells caused the mobs to die quicker and contributed to a faster clear and less damage done to you.most recently having a CM healer in my dungeon group who was telling me I should be using my Storm's Eye ability as a warrior a lot more often despite the fact he was so bad at healing I was having to pop pretty much every cd I had on every pull just to stay alive as he did pretty much nothing but spam damage spells.
Seems like a good mentor to me. Still got complaints on the forums, though.![]()

The system could use some work but the people that are mentors are not useless. Stop the absurd bashing. We could say novice players are useless. I highly doubt that would be appreciated either.
Honestly, both are just as bad.
Trade mentor is easy to get, but Combat mentor also just requires spamming roulette over and over for comms, which are mostly earned by healbotting or simply being a tank. Neither requires any in-depth knowledge of the game or how the classes work. Sometimes trade mentors are experienced endgame players who don't have combat mentor because they run in PF and statics instead of Duty Finder.
The system is a mess and basically you just ignore the crown entirely and judge each person based on the legitimacy of their advice and their attitude.
this, he played his role perfectly and gave you good advice and you still complained about it lmao, would you have done the same if it was a non-mentor?I feel like I've derailed the thread a bit so I'll comment on this. I haven't had one problem with a mentor. My experience has overall been positive. Mentor is a term like any other. It doesn't mean the mentor is a expert just someone who MAY have more knowledge. I think too many people get hung up on the mentor system. It's fine and if you feel harrassed by one report them like any other player because that is what a mentor is another player.
Enjoy Life you only get one.

Been playing for over a year and
a half now. I've had more sass, insults and general b.s. come from new players/sprouts than mentors. Not sure where everyone keeps finding these garbage can mentors but either I'm extremely lucky or there are less than people make it out to be.
Depends on what they meant by "using Storm's eye more often", did the OP let the buff fall off or would've using it more often simply led to overcapping on Eye's duration and the mentor had no clue what they were talking about? We don't really know.
