I rarely hangout at Limsa lately because I've been admiring the housing area by myself. Sometimes FC mate come to visit as well.

I am not after anything. I merely stated my personal observation based on how MMORPG’s used to be VS how they are now.
Like I mentioned in my first post, previous MMO’s I played years ago was just so different in comparison to now, the chat was full of life. People were standing around and publicly socialising and it had a completely different vibe to it. People in this forum seem to deem my observation as controversial because they’re in denial or this is their first MMO so they don’t know any better.
I used RuneScape as an example in my first post because it was true. Back in 2007-2010 days it just felt more lively and sociable - people did their own thing and my friends list was full. But then somehow, when OSRS was re-released in 2013, people played it, myself included, but the vibe was entirely different.. barely anyone spoke & everyone was just so overly focused on the gameplay and being ridiculously XP efficient. Are MMO players just overly focused on levelling? I don’t know.
Retail WoW, I still remember my real life friends joined me on my server, we hung outside Goldshire and put down one of those cooking pots to sit around & was publicly talking, one guy approached us and actually spoke to us and acted like what we was doing was very strange and was genuinely confused at what we were doing. That moment sticks out to me and further proved my theory.
I’m not requesting everyone on XIV should stop what they’re doing mid-raid and start talking to eachother, so I’m not sure why people are acting like that’s what I’m suggesting.

It doesn't have to be grinding mobs. Anything that gives a reason to go into zones.I socialise with a close circle of IRL friends, some ingame friends, who are usually busy as well. Im not sure what a "social butterfly" is supposed to be.....
I dont.
Old, outdated, timewasting tedium for no reason. ItcodKill 1000 bears for 10 furs? Yeah thats just wasting my time.

Because strawmans are far easier to argue.I am not after anything. I merely stated my personal observation based on how MMORPG’s used to be VS how they are now.

Let's be honest. If it wasn't for the story and the Final Fantasy name, this would be a terribly generic theme park mmo, without archaic systems and a god awful engine.
There's a lot of chatter in the novice network channel

"If it wasn't for the things people really like about this game, it would suck"
Can be said about every game ever, or anything really.
"man, if it wasnt for that perfect mix of ingredients and spices, pizza would suck"

Yeah, I also feel that FFXIV offers a huge range of social interactions, in many flavours, some of them I still haven't experienced in other games (like concerts). So you still might find something that suits your taste! Personally I don't struggle with finding people to talk with, but I do miss a more "farming/grinding and achieving stuff in-game while having conversations" that I had in older MMOs or MMOs with a better open world. It's something that I really like: progressing into a game while also doing this with other people, in a way that leave us room to interact, chat, etc. That being said, I agree that XIV combat doesn't really leave a lot of room for chit-chat while doing stuff. I just really miss stuff that's not behind an instance, it isn't rp, isn't completely useless like fates (i haven't really played eureka when it was released... mayyyybe i would have liked that). But my tastes are very particular.
Mhm... I don't agree that much tbh. I can't really think of other theme parks MMOs with this quality. Some of them had good phases (tera comes to mind), but at least ffxiv, with all its faults, offers polished content. I agree that themepark in general is a very generic formula, but it works for a reason.
Still, I always tell people that most of the time if you don't like JRPG aspect (specially the history), then sticking with it is not worth it most of the time imo. Even if you want to play just to catch up with your friends, the only things your friends are going to be able to do is run a dungeon or two with you every once in a while. Many people start with it because of the praise of shadowbringers, but the game mostly remained the same (aside from a few job changes that I don't really agree with but oh well), the story was just excellent. So yeah, I wouldn't say the star of the game is the MMO aspect.

He's talking more about how the name carried the game early on, which isn't totally false tbf. Myself included i would probably never played it back in 2.0 if it wasn't for the name.
And hopefully the game brings more to the table than this god awful story.

I mean, the same can be said for WoW.
"If it didn't have the name and the high end raids, it'd be a crap game and no one would have played it"
