Something to note is that it doesn't seem to be a custom from the few Gyr Abanian monks we've seen (mainly Widargelt), that being the variety of monk that we can play as, but you could still make up your own lore about it being done by acolytes or something.

Ahh, I am following in the footsteps of a certain old Roe who shaves their head to go on a pilgrimage.

Also I have been looking at making an Elezen alt and while I'm mostly wanting to make use of the prettier race-specific styles, I'm intrigued by they have the shaved head as an option for the women when overall they seem very formal and traditional. Is it a cultural thing for one of the clans? Is there a story behind it? They've never used it for a character to my awareness.

No idea if there is specific lore around the hairstyle, it does look very striking though, and I don't find it informal.
