They can say as much, for their circumstances, so long as they are interested in what all WoW provides and hasn't yet maxed out that experience (and, ideally, lack prior experience against which the current version might pale).

Think of how few complaints newcomers to XIV have compared to those more familiar with what was "better" before or who have already completed nearly all content that engages them. It's all very contextual.

I stopped playing WoW years ago, personally - but there's still stuff that I miss that I feel it does better than FFXIV. Equally, there's stuff that FFXIV does that I wish other MMO's embraced more actively.

I think that's a fair assessment. Competition is healthy and sorely needed, after all.

    Agreed.

That said, it is more than a little unfortunate when the majority of the competition shares a similar flaw, such as overreliance on grinds (even if varyingly in the form of reward loops or skinner's box exploitations, etc.) or pervasive shallowing, etc.

I'm not saying that they do at present, as I've yet to try out all the more recently released MMOs or the changes to them, but it's usually the larger but still easily comparable differences between games that most drive reiteration in them, while sometimes the differences are instead merely among the good things or in the particular flavor of the bad (e.g., with silence on the one end of developer communication, and only malicious compliance on the other).
