I think that's a fair assessment. Competition is healthy and sorely needed, after all.

That said, it is more than a little unfortunate when the majority of the competition shares a similar flaw, such as overreliance on grinds (even if varyingly in the form of reward loops or skinner's box exploitations, etc.) or pervasive shallowing, etc.

I'm not saying that they do at present, as I've yet to try out all the more recently released MMOs or the changes to them, but it's usually the larger but still easily comparable differences between games that most drive reiteration in them, while sometimes the differences are instead merely among the good things or in the particular flavor of the bad (e.g., with silence on the one end of developer communication, and only malicious compliance on the other).
