That's the biggest Reach I've seen outside of the Halo Franchise and lets be real Blizz is so hamfisted with trying to be progressive it usually just ends up back firing. woman being turned into fruit and all that.

Just because shadowbringer doesnt openly talk as directly about topics we can hear about in the news every day doesnt mean there is no political commentary in it. The way society is built in the crystarium and in eulmore and how they are presented is political commentary. By extension of that the rebuilding of the eulmorian government is aswell.
There's also the quest about the saltery in the lochs (i think late stormblood) where you're taking direct steps that the production is owned by the ala mhigan workers who move there and not by greedy monetarists.
Political commentary is always there if you look for it. In FF14 it's often packaged in a noblebright frame: there is always hope and things can improve if everyone works together.

I'd rather fight for the Empire than for the Eorzean Alliance

I hope we never turn another nation into a "republic" again. I want to see more monarchies and kingdoms. Republics just don't give enough of a fantasy feel. Not every monarch is some incompetent lunatic, you have people like Hien too.

Just wait until we put an end to the Sharlayan Forum.
Republics don't really give a high fantasy feel for sure. But I think they definitely give a final fantasy feel.
What I want to see, is not necessarily kingdoms, but I want to see a "bad Republic".
I want them to show how flawed the Amaurotine "Republic" was, and what/who triggered the Sound.
I hope Venat and Fandaniel will help shed some light on that.

This. There's an ongoing and very optimistic take on government that comes down to "what if everywhere the people in charge of countries were honest dedicated people who shared an ideal of making the world a better and more peaceful place?"Just because shadowbringer doesnt openly talk as directly about topics we can hear about in the news every day doesnt mean there is no political commentary in it. Is it realistic? Perhaps not. But when the real world seems to be slipping in the opposite direction, it's nice to see that ideal happening at least in a story where there are less barriers to it happening.
I mean so far the only republic we have is Ishgard. Limsa is a confederation of pirates, Gridania is ruled by the Elementals and Ul'dah is a split between a monarch figurehead and a oligarchy.Just wait until we put an end to the Sharlayan Forum.

I think how readily the First put aside their differences and came together to pull themselves back from the brink is (a big) part of what made me love that world so much more than the Source. Like, yeah, maybe it is unrealistic, but I find myself overwhelmingly agreeing with Iscah that
