I fixed my Shadowbringers and most of Stormblood by consistently redownloading the ex2 and ex3 folders. The only thing I've never been able to fix is Wreath of Snakes which is annoying since the last dog I need comes from there. If these crashes were purely a hardware problem then redownloading shouldn't fix them at all, it's more like certain hardware has the ability to deal with the glitchy game files that were delivered to us. We can only hope that more aren't delivered in Endwalker too.
Hi.. I have been having same problem for 2 weeks now.. tried everything on forums.. no solution.

Just on the above - my issue has been since shadowbringers i think. Would that be FF14Online/game/sqpack/ex3 folder? and I assume it will auto download when I start the game right?

Honeslty the response from Mods/SE has been a DISGRACE. going to ask for refund of EW if this doesn't work

    I run through steam.

Right now I've been running FF14 pretty much all day, every day for a couple of weeks on a 5900X/3080 Ti and no issues at all. I do need to use a different OC profile for the GPU though, the higher one I normally use FF14 doesn't like it and crashes the nvidia drivers every so often. Also if it helps, my motherboard is a Strix X570-E.
Basically don't rule out the motherboard and/or BIOS settings being the cause.
PBO isn't running and I've even tried disabling CPU turbo behaviour completely; forcing the CPU to drop to its base clock.

    The crashes still persisted.

All hardware in the machine has been running stock for trouble shooting purposes.

I can go for a week without seeing a crash, or I can have two in the same day seemingly at random.

Yes that's the folder. For others reading this they can access their game files by right-clicking the game in their Steam library, selecting properties, then local files, then browse. The ex1 folder is Heavensward, ex2 is Stormblood, ex3 is Shadowbringers, and Endwalker will probably have an ex4 folder. The ffxiv folder in sqpack contains ARR and base game files. If you delete any of these folders the game will simply redownload them and nothing else when it launches. As I said you may have to redownload the expansion you're having trouble with multiple times to get the result you want and in the end some crashes in less-travelled parts of the game may still persist but at least it's some sort of solution that I hope will work for you.

For what it's worth I've had very few DX11 problems in the later Shadowbringers patches and the problem only started for me in the expansion's early patches so I do believe they've fixed the problem as development has gone on but some elements still remain in those early Shadowbringers files. This is why I'm hopeful that Endwalker content will be free of DX11 problems even if there's still issues in the rest of the game.

I'm not hopeful since you can trace this problem back 5 years, even in some cases back to ARR and people are still having this issue. Risk is that the problem is gonna be worse then ever before since this seems to happen a lot more often at the start of an expansion. They really need to put their internal testing team on a lot of different hardware combinations to figure this out because this is not the hardware in itself that's the problem, it's certain combinations that make the game break. And the "use directx9" comments have been going on ever since DX11 was introduced but it has never helped, most of the time it makes the problem worse. It's a software issue that SE needs to patch.

    Found Another Fix

I know a lot of people everywhere have posted different solutions for this DX11 issue including checking overclocking, reinstalling, wiping the OS, changing DPU settings and minimizing graphics, reinstalling drivers, running in DX9 etc etc etc

I troubleshot this for probably 6 hours doing everything I could think of BUT wiping my OS cause I have zero desire to go through that.

I did manage to fix it. My DX11 error would happen half way through a dungeon fight usually, but also like warping after losing in a boss fight, or while trying to join a trust, etc. Probably a lot more things could trigger it as well but that's what I was playing with.

    THE ERRORS

An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV. 2021-08-16_14:18

    MY SOLUTION
A reinstall was not enough. But I went with one of my last resort fixes to get around the issue, similar to a reinstall. If you google Revo Uninstaller, there's a free download you can use. I've used this a lot for general IT work, usually fixing issues in O365. What this does is it runs the usual application uninstaller, THEN it gives you the option to scan your computers registry entries, find those related to the application you removed, and gut them from the computer. I reinstalled probably 3 times before trying the Revo Uninstaller tool.

Run it while telling it to be as in depth as possible, finding all of the registry entries for FFXIV, select them all, remove them. After it's all done, go ahead and reinstall. Crashes stopped for me after this.

A standard uninstall does not correct problems with your registry. I would not manually remove any registry entries without this tool as going through your registry without knowing what you're doing can create a LOT of terrible and possible irreparable issues. So use the tool, it takes the thinking out of it for you.

I've had issues with the fatal error DX1000002 crashes for almost a year, since upgrading to a new PC; In that time I have thrown no shortage of time and money into solving the issue, I have upgraded my CPU from a 3700x to a 5900x, I've upgraded the memory replacing all DIMMs completely, I've RMA'd an RX6800 which was replaced by a different model of the same GPU and I've replaced the PSU with a higher rated unit. The only major components of my PC that haven't been swapped out are my computer are the motherboard and SSD yet the crashing issue has persisted through ALL those upgrades. I have tried reinstalling the computer, I have disabled discord, steam and AMD overlays, I have tried different bios versions and countless different driver versions; nothing solves the problem.

I do not believe this is an issue with faulty or overheating hardware, I believe it is a problem with FFXIV itself, most likely relating to its support of either AMD Ryzen CPUs, RDNA GPUs or a combination of the two. I do not think there is anything we as users can do to resolve this problem ourselves and I doubt we'll see any improvement until SE acknowledges and commits to fixing this problem.

If you're not experiencing issues with other software, do not let these crashes push you into believing there is an issue with your machine, otherwise you'll just end up spending a bunch of time and money chasing down these phantom crashes and at the end of the day, they'll still continue to be a problem.

I can ONLY hope that endwalker fixes some underlying issue that is the root cause of these problems, it would be wise for SE to invest some time into solving this issue as with AMD increasing in market share the bad publicity and frustration caused by these issues will only continue to grow as more and more people come across them.
I ended up just swapping out my AMD motherboard and CPU and swapped over to intel. Lo and behold, the crashes were gone. Prior to this I made attempts at fresh installing OS on my new SSD, reinstalling the game and resetting the settings. I can't find it in myself to bank on SE fixing this issue with AMD by Endwalker seeing how this is something that's been quite a prevalent issue over time. If they do, all the merrier - it just feels more foolproof for me to stick with intel for FFXIV moving forward.

Spec-wise, I can only hope intel's upcoming 12th and eventual 13th gen can really contest in the market against AMD's biggest hitters. Swapped from a Ryzen 5950x to an Intel 10850K and performance more or less the same (for FFXIV) so I'm absolutely content with this.

Anyone find an actual solution to this other than using Dx9?
Got similar specs to OP, 3900x and 6900xt. With Dx11, launch the game and pc instantly reboots. Dx9 no issues, however it did crash last night trying to stream it on discord. Only time this has happened.

As for fresh install of windows, this windows install on my pc is only 3-4 weeks old.

had this issue since day 1 after building my current computer (Jan 2020) and what finally fixed it for me was a motherboard swap, with everything else (all other hardware and software) the same, aside from a couple drivers

had a GIGABYTE X570 AORUS PRO WiFi that was constant with crashes, i could not play the game at all
-swapped to a ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi 6) and all problems went away

it seems the game is very susceptible to the stability of the motherboard and if there is anything that is doesn't like it'll crash a lot, at least from my experience
i had spent nearly everyday for just over a year and a half troubleshooting the issues before buying a new motherboard a month ago, and have not had a crash since

A couple of other things to throw out that are semi-related. Overlays can cause the errors and crashes. So, like Steam overlay, possibly some streaming software could. Having the game on a separate drive from the OS for WHATEVER reason causes CTD as well as I was experiencing that as well. That one wasn't a DX11 error however, but it was the only change I had made since the last time I had played.

With my experiences btw, running in DX9 was not helping. DX9 would give different errors.

The being on the same drive as OS I find odd though. I found a post from support that stated that was the recommendation, but SE had also sold an external SSD for the purpose of storing and playing the game.

Anywho, as a summary of what solved my DX11 errors personally, revo uninstaller to remove registry entries that I suppose may have been corrupt and don't get replaced during reinstall, and moving the game to the C Drive rather than having it on my external.

Hello there! First post here, out of desperation.

This Thread is sort of old, but not really, since the Problem persists in various versions for people that play FFXIV - seemingly. I'm looking into it myself intensively right now and there seems no real fix, yet? Perhaps someone gets reminded and posts something, if they found, find our will find a solution.

My issue is: Black Screen, blaring fans and having to hard-reset the computer due to a DX11 issue, supposedly. There is nothing in the event-viewer, no minidumps and other errors, when I have to restart my system via holding down the power button. The sound is still going in the background.
windows + control + shift and b does also restart the driver, but does not bring back my GPU in this scenario.
I even tried having a friend in a Discord call, while this happens, to see if anything is still transmitted that would give us a hint. Sadly it did not. It crashed the discord stream, but we could still talk.

I tried everything, except for switching my mainboard and reseating my GPU.

It only occurs when FFXIV is on and another encoding software. Discord Stream, Twitch Stream and/or Twitch-Stream running on the second monitor.
Plus it only occurs - thus far - on two occasions.

Those two occasions are: The Jade Stoa (Trial) and Delubrum reginae 3rd Boss when one of the robots spawns the gravitational bombs - the latter is also recreated with the last boss of said instance, since it summons the robot.

By using "The Jade Stoa (Trial)" as a testing ground I was able to reproduce it and collect that insight about how/when it happens, with friends and people that work in that field professionally.

It wouldn't be too bad, if I wouldn't need these second encoding instances, but I certainly do.

Anyway. MHWorld, Total War Warhammer 2, Cyberpunk, APEX and you name it run beautifully. Furmark Stresstestsfor 50-60mins: No Problem. So way more complex/demanding games don't cause an issue at all - well, so far.

But as soon as I open a couple FireFox tabs (mainly Twitch) or share my gaming experience with others, it crashes in The Jade Stoa instance and at the 3rd Boss ob Delubrum.

I sadly have also not the financially means currently to either switch my mainboard or GPU for just FFXIV, even though it's my favourite game.

Just wanted to shine a light on this issue once again.

Oh, and here are my specs, just in case it's needed for something.

-Fresh installed Windows 10 Home (that was one attempt to fix this issue)
-Nvidia Geforce 2080 RTX Super from Zotac
    -AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (3,79 GHZ)
    -32 GB ddr4 ram (2x 16 GB DDR4-2667 (1333MHZ) )
-TUF Gaming X570-PLUS Mainboard BIOS up to date

The only other game I can think of, in which I have a similar issue, is called Warframe. Fascinating enough only on old content/maps. Not the newer and more demanding stuff.

The intense black screen crash testing caused a black-screen PTSD in FFXIV for me. Even though I play every other content in FFXIV for months just fine, it is in the back of my head, what if I crash now and let my team down.
When I join Delubrum Reginae I even pre-warn my team for maybe crashing at Boss Nr3 with the bombs.

I'd love to fix/hunt this issue down before Endwalker hits.

I'm also afraid it might occur in cut-scenes for some reason and ruin the Endwalker story line for me.

So, yeah if you have any ideas that weren't mentioned yet in this thread or perhaps some of the solution you read up on here helped you, let me know.
I'd love to enjoy FFXIV again to the fullest!

    Have a great day!
    Cheers.
