It is quality. While Y'shtola is overpriced the average pricetag for that type of doll is usually well earned. Hung up or not over it "not looking like Y'shtola" it seems very clear from the close ups that the facepaint is good and there's possibility that we're still missing details that don't show up in the pictures.

I wasn't impressed by the painting in the close ups. It was rather creepy and scary as many in this thread have been saying.

Also, the recent Omega figurine fiasco says "Hi!" when it comes to handpainting or have you already forgotten what many purchasers ended up getting? A sample model prepared specifically for marketing does not represent the final version the consumer receives.

I've been out of collecting for about 2 decades now so I don't have a clue what sort of reputation Volks/Dollfie has among collectors world wide. All I can say is what I saw didn't impress me.

A Dollfie isn't some random SE figure. 0 surprise with what happened with omega, figures rarely look better handpainted than they do painted with a machine

In general when BJDs are purchased with their face-up done it will look very accurate to the pictures, it's also a good chunk of the price. I bought one of the same scale (albeit for 1/3rd of the price) and the face up was just amazing and the shimmer definitely didn't show up on preview pics.
Tbh I dunno, as far as face-ups go it's not overboard and fits Y'shtola well enough. That stuff ain't easy to do we don't need anymore from the face up than it looking coherent.

I think it's very Star Fleet - X-Bomber, an old Japanese series using puppets in the 80s.
But this series seems to have done their dolls better than Y'shtola's, a 40 year old series after all...

And there, I would consider buying it, but 1000€ is not going to be possible. Times are hard and you can do a lot of things with 1000€ like travel or feed your family for example real life stuff.

How does this have so many likes? People have problems with strange things.

I’d like to mention here that at the level of quality the doll is made at, the price is definitely reasonable. Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD from here on out) are very difficult to make and it takes years of hard work, dedication and practice to even get a modicum of good quality. They’re hand painted and sometimes the faces are even hand-sculpted. You’re typically working with extremely tiny brushes, painting very small details that most people wont even see let alone care about.

The price reflects this, and is typical for this level of craftsmanship. As they’re being made to order it’s likely that there are not a lot of people working on the dolls (to ensure parity between models).

A typical BJD can take anywhere from 2 days to a month to paint, depending on the level of complexity. From making the clothes, crafting attachments, painting the face and eyes, sewing the hair in (or making a glued on wig/removable wig attachment which is no less a daunting task) and ensuring that it passes quality inspection, it’s understandable that the price point is what it is.

Typically dolls from non-established brands and solo-artists go for anywhere from $50-400, and established brands have even more of a pricing variety. The most expensive dollfie doll, for instance, is about $1250 (137,500 ¥), and one of their cheaper dolls is roughly $421 (46,200 ¥).

BJDs are extremely complex to work with. Monster High BJDs, for instance, require full body reworks before they’re able to just be PAINTED, and an established solo-artist can sell a fully repainted Monster High BJD for anywhere from $200 to upwards of $475 for just one. And these are presculpted, *soft plastic* faces.

Though I will say I think dollfies doll style isn’t the best for a Y’shtola doll, ahah. It looks really soft and I’d have expected them to go with a stronger look for her and instead of their typical soft style.

Although Volks is most known for their ball-jointed dolls, the Dollfie Dream line are not technically BJDs. Ball joints are made of ball shapes on one side and a socket in the other, held together by a system of elastic strings that create the tension used to hold joints in position when moved. DDs are made of soft vinyl instead of hard resin, and have joints which basically swivel around a bolt, their tension coming from the friction of pieces held tightly together.

It's definitely intended to reflect the Dollfie aesthetic more than the in-game Y'shtola. If you look at the other dolls on their website, you can see the resemblance.

That's not out of the ordinary for most "brand" doll makers. Their dolls usually have traits that make them immediately identifiable as coming from the specific company.
