    Your suspicion is correct, given that, again, infusing the weapon is already something we very much have with Samurai. Be it a single element or a cycle of elements, there really isn't anything that already hasn't been implemented in the game when it comes to elemental swords. As I was considering your proposal, I thought maybe there could be some design for a lightning-blade--thunder/reverb, shock/paralysis, light/blind, electromagnetism--but so much of the superficial elemental aesthetic has been taken by GNB. Same with a firebrand. GNB seems like it was the final nail in the coffin for a spell-blade, and--again--between it and SAM, we already kind of have two pretty pure iterations of a spellblade.

    Something which I think influences my thinking is that every expansion seems to be themed around a color and generally an element:

    * Heavensward - 蒼天のイシュガルド (Blue Heavens of Ishgard) - "A Cold Blue Sky" - Ice
    * Stormblood - 紅蓮の解放者 (Crimson Lotus Liberator) - "Crimson Twilight" - Fire
    * Shadowbringers - 漆黒の反逆者 (Jet Black Villains) - "The Black of Night" - Darkness
    * Endwalker - 暁月の 終焉 フィナーレ (Dawn Moon Finale) - "A New Dawn" - Light (White/Gold/Rainbow)

    Although it hasn't always been the case, the jobs have sometimes aligned thematically with these ideas. Astrologian and Dark Knight from Heavensward feel somewhat sky/cold themed, respectively. Red Mage and Samurai clearly express the red/war theme of Stormblood. And Reaper and Sage feel like two sides of the moon, where Reaper actually contains moon-related references, and Sage pushes a bit of an astronaut vibe.

    While the color theming isn't quite as clean-cut in Endwalker as previous expansions, I do suspect that the next expack will be themed around a similar color/element "feel." I am predicting that the next expansion will be themed around exploration and new frontiers. Regardless of whether this is an earth (Green Mage) or water (Blitzer) themed expansion, I think it will most likely have a lot of green in the aesthetic.

    I think we will get two more DPS.


    For now, gear-wise, we have 2 Maiming, 3 Aiming, 3 Casting, 2 Striking, and only one Scouting. I think we will get a Striking and a Scouting, both could be melee classes.


    If they add Beastmaster not as a limited class but a normal class, it would be suitable for Scouting set. Weapon is one-handed axe and shield, just like other Beastmasters in Bojza. For the Striking class, I think Berserker that dual wield blades would be cool.

    I want a class that wields segmented whips that split apart and are controlled with aether, like a storm of knives.

    Whether it becomes it's own class or get slapped onto a limited Beastmaster class, I don't care. I just want a whip goshdarnit.

    SAM and GNB are not spellblade.. It's just a skill effect. It's different from, for example, NIN mudra which definitely uses elements.

    1) Jobs (or really any additions) are chosen based on what will sell the expansion/get fans excited. $$$
    2) Job choices are not forced to fill missing "gaps" in roles. (4 magical ranged including BLU before a 3rd physical ranged)
    3) The way roles are organized is fluid. (It used to just be Melee DPS and Ranged DPS)
    4) New jobs can be influenced by the place we're going. but this is not a requirement. (YoshiP was originally planning to do SAM in HW)

    Speculation:

    Regarding jobs as a whole, I expect...
    • Based on live letters, at least 1 DPS in each future expansion that has new jobs.
    • An expansion will come with only 1 job, or possibly none at all.
    • An eventual reorganization of jobs by GEAR SET.
    • An attempt to balance of total Melee and Ranged, divided into their armor sets.
    • BLU will be moved from "Magic Ranged DPS" to "Limited Job".
    • Not so many full new expansions left; maybe 2-3.
    Regarding new jobs, I expect the next expansion to have:
    • A Scouting melee DPS.
    Regarding new jobs, EVENTUALLY I would guess/I could see...
    • Ranger/Corsair/Marine: A ranged rifle user, wearing aiming gear, using the "bow-mage" mechanics. Possibly "Colonial Era" flavor. Possibly related to the "New World" to the west.
    • Mystic Knight: A dual-wielding, flashy sword user; probably scimitars or Khopesh. Possibly "Arabian Nights" flavor. Possibly related to Meracydia.
    • Beastmaster: An axe-wielding limited job, wearing Maiming gear. Obviously has pets.
    • Geomancer: A bell-wielding healer, using essentially Conjurer's base kit but reflavored heavily. Probably a "Shield Healer" using a revamped Stoneskin.
    Regarding new jobs, my personal wish list..
    • (New Job): A dual-crossbow-wielding, acrobatic trap user, wearing scouting gear. Something like Linkle or even Bayonetta.
    • (New Job): A shape-shifting job.

    If we assume that there will come a time that we only see one job in an expansion, it could make sense for it to be with 7.0, since that fills in the only stand alone armour set. However, in theory they could add new armour sets and possibly shuffle them around. At one point Scouting was a new armour set (Though part of me feels like I remember Ninja sharing a gear set once upon a time, like at the end of end of 2.X when it was introduced. I can't recall if this is accurate or if scouting has always existed for NIN.)

    Hypothetically if they were adding Mystic Knight as a Melee mage, they could split Red Mage off from the casters and have them share an armour set (though I admit this is "they could" not they would or they should. I wouldn't even give betting odds on this theory it's such a long shot.)

    Ninja used to share Striking gear before Scouting was added. Looking through the Eorzea Database... it would appear Scouting was added for Final Coil, WoD, and Ironworks... stuff before that was still shared though.

    When NIN was added what they did at that time was add dex to the ARR striking gear and let NIN use it. So back then they shared gear with MNK
