People with preconceptions from older ff games are drawn to the class because of the name, and people who played the class and enjoyed it's playstyle and niche are both wanting different things for the class. SE caved to one group, without giving an alternative to the people who enjoyed the class that existed. There is now a huge void in the caster jobs.
For me, they almost nailed it, but they removed a huge portion of the reason why I've mained this class for so long. I now no longer have a job that 1, needs to manage dots, 2, has to deal with pet interactions, and 3, doesn't rely on elemental spell aesthetics. I'm glad that the carbuncle is still here, and, in theory, enjoy the gameplay changes from the different "summons," but that's all I've got to look forward to rn, and nothing to fill the void that the removal of my main class has left.
