What is wrong with having a safd space for children to play? It is a T rated game. The position would make more sense for an AO game. What is wrong with being more mindful of potential minors?

"Online interactions aren't rated by the ESRB." Don't ever send your kid into a room that you know is full of adult strangers unsupervised, and assume it's going to be a safe space.
If you want guaranteed safety that doesn't require any effort on your part, buy your kid a Switch and a ton of single player Mario games.
People here have already agreed it's good practice to use/do these things in private, and to ask anyone participating their age. That's as "mindful" as adults are going to reasonably be. The rest is up to the kids and their parents.

Well, for one thing, the general game and story is rated T... for Teens. Not children.
Technically, this game is not suitable for children at all.
For another, you're trying to demand that an entire community abstain from any and all activities that might lead to potential "bad" or otherwise uncouth behavior around these so-called and undetermined children, who we've determined shouldn't be playing this game in the first place, in a "space" that is supposed to be for an entire community and not just for kids. If you want a safe space that's supposed to be just for kids, designed with kids in mind, go find a Chuck E. Cheese. An online MMO that mentions and regularly puts their characters in situations that are not suitable for children is not that space.
Finally, if you really want to go scorched earth, then the truly best solution, in this case, is to remove all traces of children from the game entirely. This includes the removal or replacement of the child-like races, minions, and child-like characters. That way, the potential predators have nothing to prey upon. While we're on the subject of being unreasonable, from that viewpoint, the decision to play as a Lalafel may as well be considered purposefully tempting these potential predators to join what would otherwise be a safe space free of child predators.
