Have you guys not played the other final fantasy games? There are a ton of characters that wear "normal clothes". There is nothing immersion breaking for the FF franchise that I have seen so far.

did you? there ff games that are fantasy and some that are a mix of fantasy and ci-fi. ff7/8/13/15 (10 can some what fit as well) are in a modern setting and its ok there. but you don't see it in the full fantasy ones.
This is not a “fantasy” final fantasy though. The Garland Empire is (was) practically Midgar in tech level. If we have airships and eventually moon travel, there is no reason why fashion trends resembling modern day wouldn’t also arise. We have access to modern manufacturing processes.
Personally I’m surprised we don’t have more modern-esque things like fast food or even fast food chains (Rowena should absolutely be on top of this…)
Even from a lore perspective, townsfolk wouldn’t want to wear plate mail or leather armor when they can just sport a comfortable tee shirt.
You don’t have to like it, and indeed it’s fine not to and request more fantasy stuff, but as said, nothing immersion breaking thus far. Voice what you hope to see and maybe you’ll be heard.
I am not glamour, the word is icky. We transmog, that is what we call it, and what i will always call it.
written like a true WoW player.
figured I should edit this so you dont get insulted. All I am saying and meaning is, this is a new game to you. There will be many unfamiliar things and terms, just because they are not your WoW terms does not make them better, or worse, just means they are different. Trying new things is good, helps you understand what you like or dislike in a game. We were all new here at some point, so while many may not display that well, we do understand that change can be frightening. All you can do, is to embrace it and try to have a good attitude when you meet others. No one will laugh at you in game if you slip up and call it a transmog, though, its likely they may not know what you are talking about. If you can patiently explain that to them, it will go a long way
In the end, whether you decide to stay or go, hopefully you manage to enjoy some aspect of the game.

I mean you can call it what you want in your head but WoW wasn't the first with that idea. EQII had an appearance slot long before WoW had any sort of appearance-changing ability. But I call it glamour here because that's the term for this game.
As to the OP, I imagine the hobo look they'd see on people if they turned glams off would probably break their sense of immersion, too.
Every time I see someone wearing shortpants/shirts and "Sneakers " makes me want to find a way to don't render some characters.
