This is so incredibly disappointing. We've had at least one minion, sometimes more, every single year.

I think the last rising event we just got earrings and the one before that we just got a minion I think? and I think even further back all we got was fireworks.

No, every Rising back to 2014 has had one or more minions.

Adding a single low-poly minimalist chibi model with 2 simple animations was too much for the small indie team that develops this game.

An actual indie team would probably have had 1 guy do that in a week. It feels more like SE's internal bureaucracy constantly puts a wrench into every small or big thing when it comes to FFXIV rather than "the team was too busy".

Sorry to be them, then, but it doesn't change the fact that minions have always been the most common reward for the Rising events. Minions, minigames, and stuff for your house is The Rising rewards in a nutshell. One or two have deviated from that. The quest really is the focus, but it's still disappointing we can never say every Rising has had a minion after this year.

Nope, I looked up all the old websites to double-check my memory. They all had minions. The 2017 one was one with both Lyse and Gosetsu and it had that awesome NES dungeon crawler event, too. The 2018 had Cirina.

To me, minions are just as barebones as we got now.

Minion been part of the event rewards so many years so when seeing we don't even get that, I know I felt little bit sad and disappointment cause I held them to that standard.
And I would liked to see some glamour, I didn't say I was expected any.

Odd to judge the event before you've even done it.
There's more to it than just the item rewards at the end.
