The thread was less about them being armored than the fact that we're the fifth freaking class using a shared appearance. It's ridiculous. I get being one of the 4 tanks and winding up in identical sets, but saddling dragoons with the same appearance as the those four is just lazy.

Actually DRG normally had medium armor in most games. It was more unusual for them to wear heavy armor like tank classes. Typically most games had them primarily wearing things like scale mail, splint mail, light half plate, etc where they could still maintain mobility. Part of the misconception here is people seem to think anything not made of cloth or leather is immediately classified as heavy armor or assume it's heavy armor because most tanks can wear medium armor as well.

Honestly, even if we couldn't get the whole set, the helm really needs to be in the game. We don't have anything that even remotely looks like that in FFXIV.

You can sort of get the effect already with the Cobalt Barbut which is DRG equippable - it's what I've used for my female FFT LNC glamour. Sure it's not exact, but really, beggars can't be choosers, and it's often just as fun to work with what you already have.

I'm just tired of DRG artifact gear being covered in giant wing skirt things. They look terrible. But I tend to prefer more streamlined armor in the first place, so it may be personal bias.

Eh. The barbuts - one of which I am presently wearing - lack the wings and the 'dragon snout' visor; the two most visually distinct elements of that helmet.

Frankly, I could do a lot more with DRG glamours with a few more class-specific helms to work with. But we just don't have that many (that are also dyable). Most of the stuff that's unique to dragoons also happens to be color-locked.

I love the DRG AF, but I think anything like it should be specific to Dragoons, not Maiming.

Neither does Cid in 7. Then again, Cloud is using a traditional DRK weapon but he ain't in heavy armor either. There's obviously going to be exceptions.

Given that Reaper is going to also be using Maiming gear, I'd imagine you'll start seeing a little more variety in gear design soon. I doubt we'll see a huge variety in DRG specific gear though.

Possibly. I mean a similar argument as the OP could be made with NIN which most cases just has minor alterations to striking gear used for MNK and SAM and is the other job currently that doesn't share its armor with another job.
