This is the equivalent of blaming me for global warming because i took too long of a shower.
The problem is not the product itself, nor really the company, but SOME of their practices.
I know of a certain game that touches that topic, of how things are not white and black, light and dark, good and evil: but normally there is some bad to the good and some good to the bad. It's called FFXIV, you can play it for free and it's expansion heavenswards. It's a good game, just some part of it's community seems to be zealous about it and really toxic.
"The will of my friends has etched into my heart, and now ill transform this infinite darkness into eternal light
Unmatched in heaven and earth, one body and one soul that challenge the gods!"
If you dont wanna pay for the mount, dont.
Its that simple, there is no bad practice here and the game is not suffering from it.
But there is.
That mount has no equivalent in game - Thus this hurts mount collectors and people that actually wanted it.
I would have no issue with color variants of in game mounts being sold on cash shop - as long as they don't count for mount completion and were just that: color variants.
But as it is now, thats content that should be in game.

If you want it...buy it. If your a mount collector and you want it, then buy it. Its a premium mount that was designed and put into the game YEARs later. If it was a premium mount way back in Heavensward we might be having a different conversation. But at that time, it was not a mount. But there is.

A weird concept. Paying for a service, being provided said service. Amazing.
And no, mounts are not optional services - Are features of the service already provided: Rendering the cash shop only an extra fee, a predatory extra fee.

So is that going to change because a large handful of items are put in a cashshop? The answer will shock you: NOI pay to play games and be rewarded for that: content in game.

You are paying to play the game, and you are rewarded with more content in the game. Its been what, 8-9-10 years that FFXIV has been around? Can you tell me that the game stopped giving you rewards for playing and now everything is in the cashshop? I can tell you in the 5-6 years ive been playing this game, Im to this day still being rewarded for playing the game. Nothing has changed because of a handful of Premium Mounts put in a Cashshop.
People scream Corperate Greed and Predetory Practice.
No, you just dont want to pay, because you just want everything for free.
I don't think there's any in game achievement for mount completion beyond the capstone pony, birb, dog, and gwiber set from each expansion. It's not like the minions or TT cards in that respect.
The external websites that track mount completion are not official, so you can take that up with the website curator that made the decision to include cash shop mounts.
