How dare you speak that name in my presence!! =P
Took me 300+ runs before I finally got that mount. Granted that was when you could walk through the content, but still.
That one ironically I got randomly not trying for it. Showed it off went back in and saw it drop again for a friend. The others I never really tried for. ^^;Rivendare's Deathcharger
I had eight or nine characters exalted with Lower City just from farming for the Raven Lord and never got it.
Just as well, I rarely used anything but my Black War Raptor and Bloodstained Frostbrood anyway.
I bought the account wide Fatter Cat mount. I love that my alts get to use it. As Mari Kondo says, it sparks joy. I absolutely love maneki nekos and collect them in real life as well. I've got the Fat Cat plushie, and an extensive collection of its cousin Nyanko-sensei from Natsume Yuijinshou.
I haven't bought most other mounts. Just didn't see the need for them. I didn't think they would give me a happy little thrill when I summoned them, not the way Fatter Cat does.
I can see why someone who is a mount collector might be a bit miffed about this particular mount going to the Mogstation, though. We've been asking for it for years. And now it's twice the price of the monthly sub fee, putting it out of budget for a lot of players.
It's more fun to farm for a mount than just getting it. A lot of ppl pay the game for having fun, if they get the shiny without a new raid that goes with it (or something else it's just an example): the biggest part of the fun is gone. Getting the mount while paying "extra" becomes tastless. It's quick satisfaction. It's not even useful outside of being a 2 seater mount that you can use acount wide (for a big price imo).I really don't understand what's the big deal about cash shop mounts in a p2p game. Would it make you feel better if they gated your mount behind 1 month's worth of grind time so that instead of spending only money for the mount you would now spend and your time? You are already paying to play so if they make it too difficult or grindy to obtain they would be still making money from you in an indirect way. I don't get your point.
Being happy for a mount not being hidden behind a huge farm is okay, but i think the choice wasn't that great this time. Cruise chaser is not a random mob or a small thing in the game. It's not like the fat cat or the magic carpet. Even if 1 other mount or more is similar (imagine kart titan mount lol), i won't be happy if another one shows up.
btw look at what the ppl who play instead of paying get at the same time : the war mount coca cola version (just do you expert roulettes as tank and good job you'll get it over time, there's also very easy ways to farm if you have some extra time). It's not bad sure but compared to cruise chaser? I understand that 30$ mount has to be good but still...

Yes, absolutely. In fact, some of my favourite mounts in the game were already only attainable by in game grind and/or repeating content to get a drop. I love my HW Birds and the Phoenix is very cool though a little too big/obnoxious for me to want to use it. I also really like the griffin from the Ananta beast tribe and that, while not hard, was completely time gated. I also quite like some of the relic weapons and completely feel they are worth the time investment to get.
If you don't get what the difference is then there's probably no way I could explain it to you outside of simply saying the time and effort adds to the enjoyment not only of the process but also in reflection once I do have it. Would I still like the birds if I just bought them off of the store? Probably, but every time I mounted up I would just be thinking about the $30 I spent on them.
Below is an assessment of every mount obtainable in-game compared to the cash shop and a direct source can be found here.
For reference sake, roughly 15% of the Shadowbringers mounts are cash shop exclusive. Which, by the way, is less than the Stormblood at 21%
In other words, not even a quarter of mounts released in any single expansion are cash shop. So maybe lay off the sky is falling nonsense a touch, hmm?
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
It's an even smaller percentage if you remove the region exclusive ones that wouldn't exist in normal circumstances.Below is an assessment of every mount obtainable in-game compared to the cash shop and a direct source can be found here.

I personally think that the best part about having a mount is riding it. You are always paying extra, some ppl decide to do that with time instead of money. You do have a point that not all mounts should be in the cash shop, for example, I don't want Ramuh to be purchasable, because it's a raid mount, something that should be worn only by people who have raided which is one of the reasons why I like it so much. Also, it looks amazing and the background music kills. It's more fun to farm for a mount than just getting it. Hmm. Five pages in and still trying to figure out where the warning to FFXIV Players is at.
Plenty of differing opinions weighing the pros and cons of a cash shop, which has been interesting. Even insightful on the matter, but no real exampled of why we need to be warned, no warning mentioned, nor any urgency or concern explained on the matter.
Could have missed something somewhere, been a long day already. From multiple pokes from different lab works to new medication my eyes been kind of crossed all day so... Eh.
