Upcoming wipe/drama fest 8/13/2021

Okay I'll bite.

More people in a game is only ever going to be a good thing, outside that who cares how they play the game everyone plays their own way. Like I said why should we care that they have boosted and are raiding outside of the fact that more people will come in. This is the exactly same discussion when Asmon played. When people worry and care too much about who is playing that is when gatekeeping happens.

I can literally link you threads upon threads where players who asked for more challenging content got told to play a different game because "it's not the game for them" from 2.0 beta and onwards, even though this game was originally the game for them. so you can act like this community won't throw a fit and try to gatekeep an whatnot but the more "hardcore" players come to play the game again and start incorporating themselves into the community the more gatekeeping/drama you'll see.

meh whatever though. we all know history will just repeat itself here since it'll just be a repeat of the "More Like WoW vs More Like FFXI" debate in 2013 or whether they should add in Jumping and so on. Honeslty though? after 10+ years playing this game on/off i'm just too tired to care anymore.

Pointless topic and clear drama llama bait.

That said, there is one thing I think it's worth noting, skipping is not just about missing out on the story. That's a huge part of the game and intended experience, yes, but skipping also means you don't actually learn the basics, mechanics and feel of the game. Playing through the story means you have completed multiple dungeons, raids, trials, solo instances, etc. You've seen all of the common fight mechanics and have at least a basic understanding of how to tackle them. You know what the common combat markers look like. You know how to read cast bars and how/when to dodge attacks. Etc. I think most of us can agree that Lunar Bahamut isn't exactly a difficult boss.. but the reason he's not difficult despite being at the end of the last dungeon in the game right now is because we know how his mechanics work. We know what Akh Morn is, we know when we can safely dodge back into the nail explosions, etc. So when you use a skip pot you're not just missing out on the story, you're also missing out on days/weeks/months/years of actually learning how to play the game. Put a new player (or newly skipped player) up against Lunar Bahamut and it's likely they'll struggle, and probably struggle quite a bit despite how easy he is to most players who have reached end game naturally.

Now, since these are supposedly great players I'm sure they'll be able to pick things up if they really want to, but skipping isn't just about missing the story even if you are just in FF14 to do end game content so it would be nice if people stopped dropping that line.

I didn't say this community won't throw a fit, there will be people that will throw a fit and there will be people that don't care. I am but one person in a sea of voices. This is just my opinion.

And you completely lost me on everything else I was just commenting more people coming into the game, not whether the content is challenging or not.

So lets see. Naguura felt the need to make a 12 minute video about her impressions of the game where she spent 8 MINUTES talking about why she boosted and how she promises to do the story then Max had to make an entire TwitLonger about the issue of them constantly being told they screwed up for boosting and skipping the story.

Clearly noone here watches any of these guys channel like Max, Naguura or Noawh but their chat is filled with either WoW people trolling very good or FF14 players insulted that they would dare say they do not like story in MMO's and just want to skip.

Lynx who has some credit on these issues even mentioned it is a big trigger thing. ALSOOOOOOOOOO all of the above streamers have spent hours at this point talking about why they are using ACT. The people in this thread in pure denial about this is amazing too me pretending like an ACT thread does not pop up here atleast 6 times a month with people arguing.

I am not baiting anything. There are better ways to bait and farm drama in FF14 then giving a heads up that hardcore raiders are giving FF14 a very serious look again that might have real affects on this MMO. These guys are not just raiders but a lot of them are addon creators that help them to min/max WoW that will make it far easier then the current process of plugins to run these things.

I mean, unless they're dragging in random people to harass and belittle or something it doesn't really matter, right?

If they violate the ToS in some manner, they'll face the same consequences anyone else does. If the worry is the game starting to cater to hardcore, the hardcore have been here and the devs give them a nugget here and there but also basically tell them "Go do your chocobo races and like it" when they want more. I think things will be fine.
