Housing is optional, so why hurt yourself?
Housing is optional, so why hurt yourself?
I have owned a house three times, plus the FC house that my friends and I own mutually (but I 'own' the FC, I guess). I've never had to resort to clicking on a placard for hours. I'm on Omega (always a pretty full server because of the RP aspect) and before that I was on Ragnarok. Each time I brought a house - last time was last year - I checked the boards daily, walked up to the placard; if I couldn't buy it straight off, I left again. The longest I've waited when I've decided I got the property bug again was three weeks, at the end of three weeks of searching I walked up to a placard and bought the plot straight away. Just be patient. They become empty more often than you think (unless there is a hiatus on eviction) New Ishgard housing too, new lottery system, and the new island thingummy which may solve all your housing issues.
As far as health issues go, it's common sense not to sit at your desk for 12 hours straight, clearly that's bad for you. Doing so to buy an imaginary building is just very silly
Pretty sure there was talks of a lottery system being implemented for housing, could very well dissolve the need to wait long endless hours, but we have yet to see any details so we'll have to wait and see.
One of the factors causing the housing issue a lot of people seem to overlook is the gil inflation in game because of its lack of gil sinks to take it out of circulation. They haven't updated the pricing of the plot tiers since the day the system was first put in as FC only. The prices worked fine back then. However fast forward years to where we are now and most players can come up with the funds to buy a small plot just from playing the game normally if they aren't making foolish purchases off the market board.
There really needs to be more incidental gil sinks, or a reduction of the amount of gil we generate. I get that people like having many millions of gil... but it's not good for the FFXIV economy for there to be too much gil in circulation. One of the factors causing the housing issue a lot of people seem to overlook is the gil inflation in game because of its lack of gil sinks to take it out of circulation. I wish people would stop telling other to wait for Island Sanctuaries as they are not housing. If they were housing, SE would have stated it.
Having minions run around has nothing to do with "proper housing". If someone just wants minions to be running around, they should be asking SE to add a petting zoo.

It'll be interesting to see how the new systems YoshiP lightly touched on will go. He'll probably flesh the system details out more in Septembers Live letter, but he briefly mentioned that in 6.0 we'll be getting 2 types of housing wards; a first-come-first-serve style Ward, and a Lottery Ward.

EDIT: Oh nuts, also, YoshiP also mentioned something along the lines of a Solo Ward and a Free Company Ward, but again Septembers Live letter will hopefully have more information.

I'm going to be honest. I don't care about the health concerns and all that. Sure it blows that people are so addicted to the game, that they will risk life and limb to get one. However, I'm not going to weaponize these nut jobs to get changes that I want. With the housing system. If someone wants to harm themselves or risk health reasons to get a house. They earned it more than I'm willing to pay.
The housing system blows, I can agree with anyone who says that. If not everyone can get a house, and you want to keep it like that. At least expand the apartment system to be better than what it is.
Myself, I would love anyone who can afford a home can get one, none of this having to keep your sub going just to keep the home. That goes against the developers feelings on don't sub when you don't feel like playing. The limits of tech/engine/servers might be the reason. I don't know. I just know the game is big enough now that we need to stop putting this issue off.
As far as im aware of the solo ward is the private housing ward. FC ward is self explanatory. So they're basically going to have some wards set up with the usual system we have on housing launch days (run and grab a plot) while also having other wards set up to run the new lottery system for those who don't want to camp. It'll be interesting to see how the new systems YoshiP lightly touched on will go. Why care about housing when you can live in one of the main cities Inn's instead?
