Thank god I never cared about housing and spare myself this headache.
Thank god I never cared about housing and spare myself this headache.
I do remember the literal pain it was when I did it, and I'm a pretty obsessive person, but I'm sure there are people who had/have it a lot worse than I did. I did it at an opportune time when a decent amount of plots became open. Generally, the housing system is pretty bad, but, if I recall, they have been taking some measures, like apparently a lottery soon (?). Also, the new datacenter and plots coming EW, though I don't know if they anticipated the influx of players from this recent FFXIV bandwagon. Regardless, they aren't actual fixes. I'd like to see a proper instanced housing system added.

This is the system we have right now.
Lottery is coming in with Ishgard housing.
If you don't want to camp, wait till 6.1 and put your name in a lottery with the dozens of others who will be doing the same and pray for good luck.
Those are your two options outside of paying someone for an FC house. Instanced or "easy" housing (outside of buying an apartment) isn't gonna happen.
Side note: Why are you sitting at a placard for 20-24 hours if you're using that as a reference point for your argument for potential health issues? That's your first mistake right there and you should probably do some deeper research into prime plot hours.

I'll never understand why people make the choice to risk their health when playing a game and then blame the devs.
I have poor vision, and sometimes get eye strain from playing certain games or for long periods of time. So I don't do that.
Some games that are really intense or challenging increase my heart rate a lot and fill me with adrenaline, which cause severe heart palpitations which can make me dizzy. So I do my best to avoid playing games like that, or try to be more cautious about it.
In neither case is it the fault of the people who make the games, and I never demand that they change it to suit me to allow me to make irresponsible choices when it comes to my health.
So why do people do that with this game? Yes the housing system sucks, but you seriously can't blame SE because you refuse to get up to go to the bathroom while mashing LMB for 20 hours straight. Your well-being is not the job of everyone around you.
I got my first house a few days ago. And I can honestly say the best way to "fix" the current system is to reduce the timer to max 3hours or so. The fact is in those three hours you'll already give enough time to create the mass of the regular 20 people camping it.
But above all it also prevents the feeling from getting invested to much in clicking it. At one point you wasted to much time (especially if you been there the moment the plot went up) to just let it go and you just dedicate the rest of your day to it. Because if it pops in that 15min you were doing a roulette you'd hate yourself even more for standing 3+ hours there earlier.
I get we cant get a first come, first serve system. And I have my doubts about the lottery system we get in Endwalker. Imho the best thing to do is fix the timer to something doable for people being there from the moment it goes up.
I dont know about your server but I've been camping all times of the day to find the perfect time and "prime plot hours" is all day around.
The only way I got mine was because there was one up in in the Goblet and Shirogane and I noticed most people check Shirogane last or not check it at all. So there were only like 6 people I had to compete with and it had a relatively short timer.

My general recomendation is look how long a plot been up (can be guestimated by the timer until next devaluation) and go there after 10 hours or 15. Generally this is close to when it's up for purchase.I dont know about your server but I've been camping all times of the day to find the perfect time and "prime plot hours" is all day around.

There are discord servers that keep track of when plots went up for auction. 8-10h after is the average plot pop time. Therefore, you can save your energy and camp when it matters. There are ways to make it easier, people for some reason just want to sit at a placard all day.
The issue here is A) apartments are actually 100% full on some servers and B) getting an FC room still requires having a house.
The system is really bad as is and just adding new wards every 6-12 months isn't really a sustainable way to keep housing going. Especially if the game keeps growing. There will never be enough houses until they revamp the system in some way.
Even if you manage to get one, you still need to stay subbed to the game to keep it. You can't take a break or you lose it. It's one of the few systems that are really antithetical to what the devs say about respecting people's time.
Wait until Island Sanctuaries are added. Depending on how they work, they may be more akin to proper housing instances (considering your minions can actually run around and do things there supposedly).
I recall it not being all too difficult to get a small personal home back before SB launched. I purchased mine in lavender beds which was the most popular housing area on Ultros at the time and it was even in a nice spot near a marketboard. However when trying to get a medium or large plot those are almost never available, however the small ones have always seemed to circulate frequently at least until they cancelled demolitions for COVID or other events labelled as disasters. Not sure if it was just luck or not but I was able to sign on without issue right when the servers went online after the maint that opened Shirogane and jumped right into the zone and bought a med plot right next to a market board with no other people around competing for it. So at least from my end it seems like the frustration is people wanting larger houses trying to jump on the release of plots that were just released or demolished though this obviously can be different depending on the world they're on.
