Lol what if the final boss is Zenos merged with fandaniel instead with hydaelyn or zodiark. And turns out that fandaniel is Zenos's soul fragments.

Jest aside, I'm not too thrilled with the chance that they're going to pay homage for sephiroth with Zenos. Imagine if we deal with human Zenos as 89 trial, then he escape and merge with something, become monster that we fight in final trial. Then for the first time we will get a solo instance after final trial where we fight human Zenos again.

Yeah.. Nope.. I will take anything besides that.

Unfortunately, I feel like Zenos is exactly that: a poor man's Sephiroth. What people tend to forget is that Sephiroth/Jenova (at least the Sephiroth you are dealing with throughout the bulk of FFVII's story - however much of that is Sephiroth's consciousness or Jenova is debatable) is downright philosophical pretty much from the moment you meet him (particularly in Nibelheim during the flashbacks, but also later in the Black Temple, etc.). Zenos... isn't. He's just snoozy boy who wants another big fight.

The title is already a spoiler to anyone who has completed Stormblood but not got beyond there.

Ty for this btw. I constantly see people compare him to Sephiroth but it’s kind of an insult to Sephiroth. Sephy at least had depth to him, and he was actually a hero before he learned of his roots, but even after that he at least had a goal that extended to more than just “lol i wanna fight.” Or they get the whole experiment thing wrong. Sephiroth was experimented on without even knowing, Zenos is implied to have done it on himself.

As long Zenos and/or Zodiark isn't the final boss, I think I'll be satisfied because that's the outcome they've been setting us up for for a long while.

I just hope that if a twist does happen that it's at the level cap because it's too obvious that things aren't actually over if the "final" boss is happening before then.

There are a few things Sephy had going for him vs. Zenos:

    1) His strength felt earned. Not only was he a great war hero, but he basically came from nothing (I know he wasn't actually from nothing, but as far as he knew during his ascendancy, he was).

Zenos is a child of privilege. His power (at least prior to his 'death') is pretty much unexplained.

    2) Sephiroth was intelligent. He was the son of two brilliant scientists - quite possibly the two greatest minds in the world.

Zenos... well, I don't know his IQ, but he doesn't strike me as being anything close to prodigy (typically, really smart people aren't bored - they're always searching for new stimuli. Zenos does little else other than lounge).

    3) Sephiroth experienced immense agony upon discovering the nature of his background.

I don't think Zenos is emotionally mature enough to even know what agony is.

    4) Sephiroth had dealings with Cloud even before the story began; Sephiroth burned Cloud's hometown down and murdered his mother (later games established that he personally cut her down). He then personally encountered Cloud and his affiliates throughout the story.

Zenos lost a fight to us - it's possible he doesn't even know our name, other than the fact that we are the WoL.

Spoiler from FF4, I guess, but my final guess is Zenos will go full Zemus.

We specifically have not seen any iconic end-game FF4 major bosses, despite many opportunities, such as Omega. Coupled with the moon location, this screams the obvious. Zenos is a primal or psuedo primal like Iceheart.

For those not in the know:

In FF4, a wizard named "Zemus" controlled the guy we thought was the big bad until like, act 9 of 10. This Zemus character is destroyed only to morph into primal-esque creature.

Of note, in the wiki "In his megalomania, Zemus stops at nothing to enforce his plan, using whatever he deems necessary to make it happen. His will is so strong that it can exist independent of him and forge a new existence even without Zemus's original body." Sound familiar of our body-jumping boy Zenos.

I don't expect this to be the final boss...but maybe like the Thordan of the series to Zodiark's Nidhogg.

All that said though...I also wouldn't be surprisde if Hydaelyn is the final boss at some point, and that the "Echo"/enthrallment immunity is just our being enthralled to her. I mean, we've discovered a way to un-enthrall like with the Kobolds... so...

That's what I'm expecting too - specifically reaching Zodiark's prison on the Moon Fandannyboy (I'm sorry, I simply cannot state Fandaniel's name without mocking it and him accordingly), gets uncermoniously disposed of by Zenos, who absorbs his aether, while the insane Ascian cackles all the while as he's absorbed... before merging into Zodiark to begin the final battle "of his hunt", forcing the WoL to draw on Hydaelyn's powers to match.

Of course I could be just as wrong and the final battle could be just another "space flea from nowhere" that has never been mentioned before and comes from out of nowhere like FFIX's infamous Necron, but we'll find out either way.

I think Zenos has more going for him than people give him credit for. Way more than the "warrior of light" story for sure. Just look at his family history and just where he came from how he was raised. Like it takes guts to go as far as he did even for the wrong reasons.

He was given the best education he could have, along with a mentor for sword training. Sure his father may not have been present(because yknow he was busy with the war) but zenos was a bad seed from the start. Idk how it takes guts for him to go far. He self experimented and killed his mentor.
