God I love weekends in FFXIV

I've never seen anything like the way this game comes together and parties. It's not even really RP, but, at the same time, it doesn't feel one hundred percent out-of-character, either. I don't know why I find the club scene so enjoyable - I've never been to so much as an outdoor concert IRL - but it's a rare Friday and Saturday when I'm not spending most of the night dancing with strangers. This is such a weird little world we've all collided on.

I keep seeing ads for these sorts of events, but haven't scraped up the courage to attend one yet. I would like to go and just people-watch and listen to music, but I'm not very social or chatty, so I'm afraid I would just be an awkward lump taking up space and harshing the groove. What are the usual expectations for these things? I feel like I would make everything worse for others just by being there, especially if there is an instance player limit and they want to hold a glamour contest while I show up in my lowbie rags.

I just go and dance - I don't generally talk to people all that much. Sometimes someone will send me a tell to compliment my glam, or just to make small talk, but you could honestly just pretend to be AFK and they'd never know any better.

At least on Crystal, the mood at these things is always very casual. People yell a lot, crack jokes, and praise the DJ or host. This particular event was Alleycats on Mateus, which is hosted on Fridays and Saturdays every week. Tonight it attracted a crowd far exceeding their club's 150 person occupancy limit, so things were taken to the beach.

Honestly, there are good clubs and not-so-good clubs; some break the TOS and are very heavy on ERP, and some - such as Alleycats - strictly prohibit anything even slightly racy (it's one of my favorites. A'ley, the hostess, is a very social, very gentle person who just seems to enjoy being surrounded by the whirl of people. She's living her FFXIV dream, and it's fun to share in). If one doesn't suit your tastes, nobody cares if you bail out and go hit another - most of these events are populated by regulars and newcomers pop in and out constantly to stick a toe in the pool and see if they like the temperature.

You can just stand there and watch, many people do. Anyone organizing such an event is going to be happy the more participation they have and people there simply enjoying it. Community is about including people.

There was a big event on a NA Data Centre this weekend, the Lunar Con. I don't think this is usually the case.

If that was near or at Sly's FC then it normally is that busy on the weekends as he DJs stuff on stream. Should go follow some of the bands around as they can easily gather big crowds.
