So people have beaten the dog to death, so all I will have to say is that the terms of service exist. In signing up for the game then you agree to abide by these rules which are publicly available to read at your leisure. Therefore, one cannot simply 'plead ignorance' on the matter.

It's like getting a pancake mix, not watching the instructions while baking, and then shouting "WHERE ARE THE PANCAKES?!?!?!" because all you got is a mass of burnt flour.

Well, I think it's saying something when even the regular trollers on these forums don't cross the lines the OP has. To their credit, they clearly possess something resembling a moral compass.

Sadly, many of the in-game trolls I deal with act exactly like OP. There's one that deliberately trolls NN like this and, in between timeouts from the inevitable kicks, attempt to incite drama in Limsa shout.

This is beyond that.

I agree. It's still trolling, but it's more than just casual trolling. It's, as you said, actively antisocial behaviour.

To me I think as a society the more miserable we are, the more people use online as a way to destress and make others upset. It is sad, and I could very well be wrong.

A kernel of truth here, but as someone who grew up and is still in absolutely miserable environs in real life, I honestly don't get why one would spread misery online. It's much better to use it to escape that and try to grasp at happier headspaces. Other people that I know also have miserable real life circumstances have severe issues when interacting with people due to their misery, but also use the internet to escape all that.

I have to disagree; someone taking pleasure out of antisocial behavior isn't just "trolling". This goes beyond your average troll. This is a person who spends a significant amount of time trying to generate ire in the people around him. The ire is a fuel, for more antisocial behavior.

Normal, relatively-well-adjusted humans don't sit down at their computers for the sole purpose of shocking people, to this extent. If your child, spouse or family member were behaving like this, you wouldn't just chalk it up to trolling. At least I seriously hope you wouldn't.

One day, pissing people off online might just not feed the urge.

This isn't healthy behavior... like, objectively, it isn't healthy. I cannot imagine a therapist looking at the types of things OP has said, and just responding with, "don't worry, it's just trolling." There's a pain at the center of this. It should be dealt with. OP might be a person suffering some kind of abuse; gaining pleasure (and thereby numbing their own pain) by making others feel bad.

I'm 46 and speaking from not only a lifetime of experience dealing with mental health issues, but thousands and thousands of hours communicating with other people "out there on the internet". I get trolling. I get, "yeah, well you're stupid!" I get Godwinning. This is beyond that.

Being disable, I think about this a ton. I got wayyy to much free time. And I'm not going to say my two cents is right. This is what I think it is.


Misery loves company. It is just that simple. After watching social media, and thinking about Shadowbane, UO and other mmorpgs I played over the years. MMO players had a hint of anti social elements to them. Using the world to escape in, and just have fun. Trolling each other and getting a rise out of people. At first I think it was just silly as people get so upset over the game. As years passed, the trolling has got worse through social media, and just gaming overall. Counter-Strike use to have a clan call Myg0t that was all about getting a rise out of people for laughs. They would use cheats and anything they could. That was not the normal, and now it would be.

Hey taking pleasure in anti social behavior not inherently wrong, intrusive, and or harming. Context is important at times at the core sure it may go against social norms but that in itself I do not think is enough to chalk it up to having mental health issues. By in large it just could be that unfortunately this behavior is normalized taking advantage of those in a weaker position using one's authority and power to get ahead in life or upon something one wants.

This behavior is a product of pervious generations failures to notice the problem or speak out due to whatever reason.

I do not think the OP is acting this way because they miserable or want to glorify such treatment of women I generally get the vibe that by in large they either feel such use or power is normal and or also simply finds getting a strong reaction out of people is funny. I do not get the vibe the OP cares enough about the inherent feelings or issue to want company for his or her misery. Problem just someone that makes light of real world situations for humor.

Many people have done it but when they were younger I just think as time goes on people refuse to grow up and keep that juvenile behavior and humor later in life. I mean I am sure many of us use to have character names, passwords, gamer tags that we were not proud of.

I do not, you are mistaken. I'm sorry I hit close to home on your issues. There is help if you are being or were abused or mistreated. But whatever hate or pain you feel... stop perpetuating it. Take some responsibility and deal with it in your head, or with assistance. If you're gonna be so macho, what with the way you'd treat women and such, then certainly you're man enough to own your own pain.

Own it. Deal with it. Go confess to a therapist that you condone the activities you condone.

If you don't really condone them, and you've just been trying to be edgy, go anyway. You're idea of comedy is way off, to the point of being sociopathic.

It does make no sense why someone banned from the game can post on the forums, especially if they're banned for harassments and hate-speech. :B
