It would be wrong to suggest that if they ever did add "mythic" dungeons that they be designed with 8 players in mind.

I can see your confusion. Expert is just the latest two dungeons as a roulette, it’s not in anyway meant to be challenging content. There are plenty of ways for you to find challenging content though if that’s your jam.

This does sound kinda fun, especially if it had a leader board for best clear time.

It is in most cases if you bet on Black or Red.

It is kind of a legacy from when the High Level (i.e. what is now 50/60/70 Roulette)and Expert were originally introduced in 2.1/2.2. Almost all of the level 50 4 players dungeons were optional in 2.X and difficult enough to legitimately cause wipes. Endgame dungeon difficult has decreased as they added more and more dungeons to the MSQ.

Roulettes are to keep old content and current casual content populated. Nothing more, nothing less. SE would be better served creating more mid and high end content than remaking old content under this proposed system.

I'd love to have some challenging 4 person content. I don't think the roulette system is quite the way to go about it though, for obvious reasons. I also think they should just blanket up the level and level cap gear. There should be an actual focus on redesigning for a higher level of play, which in turn would mean only a hand full would be made at a time.

Basically this. Also Pharos Sirius was a good one back in the day. Would like to see a savage of this.

Your proposal sounds like an astounding amount of development work for minimal reward. They are exploring this idea with Unreals, but look how few Unreals are able to be put out. Maybe not a roulette but one or two of these dungeons retuned and rebalanced for some alternate reward system like Faux Hollows may be a more reasonable ask.

This also completely misses the point of roulettes. SE could make any number of daily missions or special high level dungeons/trials or whatever to provide tomes for veterans. Roulettes aren't for veterans. They bribe us to do them with tomes so we keep the content alive for those who are trying to get their clears.

I think they could at least make expert roulettes min iLvl, so that they would be at least a little bit challenging, instead of letting us cheese it with our overpowered gear.

You could run the expert dungeons at minimum iLvl optionally using the PF if you want, though all that will really achieve is a very slow clear.

As far as this idea for Master's Roulette goes... while I would welcome harder versions of the dungeons there are currently 77 dungeons in the game, 75 4-man dungeons and 2 deep dungeons ranging from 1-4 players. 79 if we include the 8 man dungeons, CM and Praetorium.

Upscaling those dungeons with the proposed changes would be an astronomical workload for the devs, especially considering they're always bleeding manpower to other pursuits as Square Enix Corporate division does what it always does and fucks the MMOs over with bad moves elsewhere.

I'd much rather see something entirely new with its own new roulette and new dungeons with new bosses, new monsters, and new mechanics. I described once in a post eons ago an idea about a, "Brutal Dungeons" being accompanied by a dungeon that was longer than normal, that had more complex bosses, with a limit on how many deaths you could have before a total reset, and rewarded gear and weapons 5 iLvls lower than what was obtainable by Savage/Augmented Tomestone gear.

They kind of implemented it with the Dalriada gear, but the Dalriada is a large man raid, and though it can be done with as few as like 2 or 3 people due to its insane Echo buff, that's actually easier than doing it with 48.

The leveling roulette is more of a challenge than expert, as tank or healer its fulfilling to destroy a wall to wall pull with sprouts. Dungeon design doesn't help either, Matoya's Relict for example is super boring due to all the barriers and one instance of fighting 3 mobs. On top of that you still have people just doing double pulls or even sadly single pulls.

It's sad when a WAR or WHM are afraid to do mega pulls when they have multiple 80 jobs. This is why I love the design of Mt. Gulg because it has optional mega pulls, If I see that the healer is decently geared and is not a sprout I can easily triple pull or maybe mega if they are max ILVL and vice versa if I am healing. Nothing feels better than utilizing your full job kit in a mega pull, with the exception of an ultimate clear.

As for boss mechanics in dungeons I feel they should implement the Twice-come Ruin debuff from DR instead of vuln stacks into Expert roulette, I know that sounds controversial and i might be crazy for suggesting that. It's obvious endgame 4-man content such as mythic is never going to be added to FF14, the shift in content is headed towards 24 or more duties as well as the usual 8man content.
