You see a lot of spinning or even kiting tanks lately or dps that stand next to the tank in front of the boss.
So i wonder: is this something from WoW? No offense here.
Cause i never played that game. Im just curious.

WoW is the last game where you want to do this because it pretty much enforced the "never stand in front of the boss" rule.
Most bosses had some really nasty cleaves, so everyone who tanked in WoW would most likely know better than spinning a boss. Dragons even had a frontal cleave and a tail swipe which usually only made the sides safe.
Standing in front of the boss in FFXIV is not really an issue with a few exceptions during tankbusters. But spinning the boss is the best way to make every melee ever want to murder you.
I wish more bosses had cleaving tankbusters... c:

Had another PLD in Matoya’s Relict spamming clemency instead of letting excog pop. What’s with the diaper baby tanks? Should they even have MP to cast clemency this often if they’re doing a proper rotation?

I'm still leveling PLD, but from my experience (read: my time pulling wall-to-wall in trust dungeons), if I have to spam clemency, I basically have to delay the magic part of my rotation for a while. Which also means either using Requiescat for non-damaging purposes or letting it sit there. I do not like it, but unfortunately Urianger is a poor jogger.

So, yeah, no, they're definitely missing out on a chunk of damage, and would be even if you didn't take the time they spend casting Clemency into consideration.

The funny thing is that you have to go out of your way to even let Excog pop in Matoya's Relict because that dungeon hardly has damage. Let alone having to use Clemency...

Well, I ran Main Scenario as a tank for the first time ever a little while ago. Sadly, I got every other full combat job to 80 even though I wasn't rushing things so... tanks

Anyway, a new sprout tank was also there and a friendly person was giving the advice so I tied to be off-tank and avoid aggro battles but also it was a sprout so I tried to clean up stray mobs. Sprout did well but wow did I feel like a clumsy oaf or a bull in a china shop. Fortunately the party was helpful and patient and I think sprout tank got all the comms as deserved

I dunno, since I've been playing healer or tank so much lately, sometimes when I get to be DPS I am jumpin a lot. Just because I can. I am free. (I accidentally confused a party member once, though. Sorry, I wasn't trying to indicate a safe spot, I was just enjoying myself too much.)

It's fun to watch very new players slowly turn their character before moving in a direction, though. I remember when I did that. ... It was only 2 years ago so of course I do, but.

Speaking of playing tank lately, it has really brought to my attention how many WHMs there are who don't abuse Holy. It makes me sad.

A lot of bosses in WoW have frontal cleaves as their basic auto-attack, and spinning them is a great way to kill everyone in melee range (and sometimes farther, for larger bosses. Dragons can sometimes cleave a good quarter of the room with their auto-attack). So no, it's not really a WoW thing, it's just a douchebag thing.

Seriously, have tanked WoW till Legion, I have no idea where that squirly spinny tanking style coming from.

Spinning around and moving a lot is probably PvP behaviour more than WoW in general. In PvP you don't want to be stationary because a moving target is obviously harder to hit. In WoW tanking you don't want to spin due to cleaves and such. When I used to tank on Death Knight I could get away with barely moving at all because vulns aren't as common so you could just self-heal through a lot of mechanics.

a dps told me to stay still, so i continued ADing my way to victory. XD.

alphi keeps telling me :ill take care of the healing when im just giving everyone a free bubble (paladin ftw).
