Coming from "the other MMO that won't be named," and having participated in their forums to the tune of nearly 4,000 posts, I find it strange that threads calling out a GM by name are allowed to stay up here.

I see very little other clean-up that needs being done around here. There's no political threads, no race threads, no fisticuffs between posters.

I would imagine there's a feedback option after you've contacted support. Doesn't this belong there? Or is it all good to call out GMs by name around here?

    Oh, they're not allowed.

It just shows that no mods EVER come to this forum, and they never do anything.

The english forums in general, and general english in specific are being left to rot.

Forgive the lack of having things memorized here, but unless there's a second set of rulings, there isn't actually a listed rule about posting a gm talk, provided a players name isn't visible in the talk itself. The absolute closest on the thread mentioning rules here is: "Please do not post false, fabricated and/or fictitious information. It is unconstructive and will only confuse others. Please be careful with what you post and keep in mind that your words can affect others more than you may expect."

Which, they did at least show their game, not even shrinking down to just the chat. And considering I had an experience with this gm myself who literally did not want to spend time on my ticket (You ever hear the gm whisper noise 3 times in a second? It's daunting), not even that surprised.

I'm not questioning posting the content of the chat; I have no horse in that race and I wish the OP well. I'm just talking about personal callouts. Like, if I have a problem with Joe Smith in game, I come here and post about Joe Smith and the problem ... that's what I found just a bit off.

'Cause if one can't call out a fellow player, certainly they can't call out an employee, yeah?

It doesn't matter, though, honestly. I said what I said just out of curiosity, 'cause I am new around here, and learning the ropes of how it works in these parts. As I was mentioning, in my limited experience so far, these forums are devoid of all the (political, social-justice, #hashtag, race debate) garbage that plagues "other" forums. That's why the existence of a popular thread with a "name and shame" in it took me aback.

The answer on levels of moderation explains some of it, but then goes against everything else I just mentioned. If it weren't for moderation, one would think these forums would be a cesspool. Which makes me lean towards the fact that people posting here just have different agendas than they do elsewhere. Namely, to discuss the game instead of the latest real-world social issues.

I find it quite interesting from a sociological point of view. See, if:

...then the group of people that chooses to post here is extremely well-behaved, both when compared to other MMO forums, and the entire Internet in general. And I like that very much.

It's been said before, but IIRC:

Blizzard is their own moderator for their OF.
XIV employees a third party to moderate their OF.

Moderators appear from time to time to delete threads/posts/ban when there are reports/large scale inflammatory discussions.
Since you're new I'll give an example. The male viera request thread got quite heated. Dozens, if not hundreds, of posts were deleted and some temp banned. The thread was even once deleted off the face of the earth. Maybe the repo got toasty. (Needless to say I'm quite sure an official SE employee corrected the third party).

That being said, there is a population, cultural, and social difference between the two games. Your surprise may or may not continue.

I hope it does. I've been spending about an hour a day here (as I do on forums... no life LOL) lurking and participating, and I very much appreciate the quality of discussion around here. I mean, I'm not naive, and I do see a little rabble here and there, but it's like night and day versus Blizz' forums.

Nay, it's like a black hole compared to the sun. LMAO.

    Have a good one!
