I know this isn't WoW but is there a healbot type option for healers?

On small groups i can handle that by just setting some keybinds to target party members, and having a G600 makes it doable even for a 8 man party, but on raids is a different story,

That's all you need in this game. Even when raiding, you typically ONLY focus on your group. So you'll have your 8 people, which will include 2 healers. Then each other group has the same. So long as groups don't have completely crappy healers, you'll never look their way really. Well, you're not obligated to. I know I'll constantly cover for weak heals and keep up multiple groups, but it's not common or expected. To be honest, it often goes unnoticed too. Anyway...all that to say don't stress yourself out. If you can do the 4-8 players with no issue, that's all you'll ever need to do, so long as they don't change group formats down the road.

I usually tank or DPS and I have only been playing a few months so please forgive my ignorance.

I have never played a healer in FFXIV but I'm considering it. But I'm not sure how to go about it.

Short answer: Not without illegal plugins.
Less short answer: Even those won't be able to redo the UI to give you that nice grid layout you may be used to. They mostly just restore the mouseover functionality that Yoshida removed to prevent macros from being 'too strong'. (Oddly enough, though, said plugins functionality is superior to WoW's macros in that a higher priority (say, mouseover, focus target, current target, target of target, focus target's target, etc.) being out of range fails the targeting step and passes to the next target priority rather than breaking the macro.)

Sorry, you actually have to play the game yourself instead of letting hte addons play for you.

You can just put cures on your hotbar then keybind those hotbar buttons and use the mouse to click party members in the party list who need healing.

get cure 2 procs when there is no healing needed till it expires
blast cure 1 on people that lost a sliver of health and not trust natural regeneration

There isn't enough healing needed in most content to even bother getting Cure 2 procs. A lot of people would remove Cure from their hotbar if it wasn't needed when doing low level dungeons like Sastasha.

If you need an emergency Medica you can use Swiftcast and at later levels you get abilities that instantly heal the party like Assize.

FFXIV is designed to be played without addons on mind.
WoW on the other hand is designed with addons on mind.

You will not need addons, not even for the hardest difficulty content.

Healbot never played the game for you as far as I know (I tried it back in Wrath, didn't like it, switched to Grid + mouseover macros), nor do any of the other approved WoW add-ons, You still have to do the targeting/clicking/moving yourself at the correct time. What the add-ons do is let you customize the game's UI/HUD to display information in a way that's easier to see.

The default UI/HUD here is a definitely step up from WOW's default but even it could use quite a bit of improvement (the clunky design of the party frame being at the top of my personal list).
