I don't agree with those of you that say the playerbase, especially the new sprouts (like me) are toxic, rude and all those other bad things. Lemme explain...I called up my character profile and found I has these things called "Player Commendations". I had no idea what those are or how I got them, so I had to do some research. After some time, I finally found they are given to you by other players...but no idea of how that mechanic worked. More searching, more searching....finally, I found out how to do it in a off-hand comment somewhere that it's a button on the bottom-right of your screen at the end of a run.

The problem isn't that you didn't get the commendations you deserved (and you damn well DID deserve them!) because of bad players, although I guess it's is still possible. I suggest it might be because the sprouts DON'T KNOW about player commendations or how to give them.

I've been playing for a few weeks now and that's my primary (only, really) criticism of FFXIV; there's not enough hand holding early on to tell you about basic mechanics in the game...and there are SO many of them. Doesn't have to be much; a quick tutorial in the Hall of Smith that discusses basic things would be sufficient. A quick fer-instance...I died for the first time in a dungeon last night. And I couldn't figure out how to ... well, the term I know is rezz ... I clicked the OK button, nothing happened. I tried all sorts of things, including clicking the OK button over and over...nada, nil, zip. I wasn't until I held my finger down on the mouse button for a second or so while clicking the OK button that I noticed the button had a progress bar, and when I let it reach the end, magically I was rezzed and could run after my party.

Who does that??!! No other program has a progress bar in a button...buttons are to be clicked, not held down!

Anyway, enough complaining. But that's what I mean, player commendations are just one of many little gotchas that (in my opinion) aren't adequately explained in the game. Now I know about them, I make a point of handing one out every dungeon I do. But sometimes, there's just one person left by the time I get to do it; the others have presumably buggered off without looking in the last chest or handing out commendations to others, or even stopping for a quick "Thnx All" to the party. That makes me sad...

You know as someone who mains a healer this poste really hits home, I had exactly the same issue when I started with the UI for accepting raises and it was so frustrating since it really is counter-intuitive.

It's good to keep in mind if ever a sprout is slow to accept a raise, once we understand how it works, we forget how many quirks people need to learn.

Aye! This is what I had mentioned, I did not know about them either until I got an achievement for leaving a good impression after getting 10 commendations. I think there may be a prompt that comes up about it, but it is literally grouped with a million other prompts about limit breaking and what a light party is, I was getting so flustered with all of the pop ups I was not going to read those all while the tank was going ham sandwich in sastasha/first dungeon I have ever done in a new game with actual people. I didn't want to let anyone down, so those prompts could wait....and than I promptly forgot all of them existed. I also must state everyone can not give commendations out to people who either poof from the dungeon or rush out without even saying goodbye T_T

I assume you meant the return to home point pop-up window?
Because the accept res button is instant and doesn't have progress bar.

Like someone eles has mentioned, the reason they made the ok button in the return to home point window has progress bar is because sometimes people mistaken it for the res window and just click ok and accidentally return to home point instead of being res. With progress bar, you won't accidentally return and can wait for the actual res window.

Not sure I understand so correct me if I say anything wrong:

You're saying the screen I saw was a "return to home point" window, and not a rez window. OK, in that case I don't know what a rez window looks like because the healer of the party didn't rez me. I may be mis-remembering this because it was all so quick and I was in the middle of combat and eager to get back to help my party...but I died, my toon appeared back at the start of the dungeon and couldn't move or do anything except click the button in some kind of window that popped up. I clicked and held the button, and then was able to run back to my party and finish the dungeon.

So with that description of what I "think" happened...can anyone tell me what really happened?

Another thing...this happened in Haukke Manor and the videos I've watched, and the one experienced person in game also did, was click their Return button to save time and go back to the beginning and finish off the third floor of that dungeon. I didn't do that because my Return button is set to Gridania...but I think perhaps if I had clicked my Return button, would it have taken me back to the beginning, and NOT Gridania?? This seems like it could be one of those little gotchas I mentioned before. Because I didn't follow the guides, I ran back to the beginning, and dragged a bunch of trash mobs behind me. Not that we has any problems...but pretty sure the one experienced player (the healer) did some eye-rolling at that point.

I'm world class at getting a battle rez, it's all the practice I've had.... Anyway, the raise window will have 3 options on it, accept, decline or wait. Return to home point only has 2. That's how I spot the difference in the heat of battle when everything is exploding.

A common confusion for a new players first time doing Haukke manor this one. If you use return in a dungeon it won't take you back to your home point, it will take you back to the start of the instance instead. In Haukke Manor it's the quickest way to get out of the basement after the 2nd boss so that's what everyone does.

I wish I could give more than one commendation. I've been in groups where different people played well and saved the day, and they all deserve commendations. I usually end up giving it to one of the healers or tanks.
