If you seriously want to use something else than your PC why not buy a Laptob thats good enough for gaming or a windows tablet? The surface series from microsoft is pretty good and more than enough to run games with low requirements and you can add a mouse and real keyboard which makes it perfect for holiday.
Well if I was on the couch there would be no space for a mouse or keyboard, certainly the touch screen on something like the surface could be used in some concepts, but I don't really like the idea of moving with the touch screen. I think kicking back comfy, handheld. Also I assume for combat you'd be able to use the controller setup for the system, so combat wouldn't need touching (which would be painful indeed).

As I approach full on computer I'd probably just.. use my full on computer. The attractiveness of this is the handheld nature that comes with controller (built-in, not meaning pairing a bluetooth controller with a laptop screen). Not that I think there is anything wrong with the surface, tablet shape but a PC is pretty handy. Yet if I'm going to need a keyboard and mouse I'll just use my UFO of a main PC then. Just to be clear I don't see myself 'maining' any sort of device, tablet, laptop, or handheld, just thought it could be a cute supplement (or an expensive paperweight).

    Cheers
I really don't see them putting the time and effort into a Linux port. I mean anything could happen but I wouldn't buy a Steam Deck in hopes of native FFXIV support.

Well this thing is steam OS and can support windows, so technically it might be able to play WoW and FF14 most likely. But... WoW on a portable device would be terribly difficult I imagine cause it doesn't have a "legacy movement gamepad" option like FF14 to my knowledge. I might not get this because I recently got a gamepad and it's really hard to target enemies with it.. it's kinda cool fun and different but.. i'm too used to PC controls and the aiming is easier.

This would mostly be useful for people doing crafting while not at home or people that want to do seasonal events and stuff without carrying a laptop around just for that.

From what they've said, yes. It's basically just a PC shaped like a gamepad. You might have to install windows on it to do it though.

I'm sure when it comes out there will be guides on how to set it up to do that.

The only issue I see is if AMD properly supports drivers for both SteamOS and Windows if this is being sold as primarily a SteamOS device. It is a custom APU and not just a regular off the shelf part.

WoW have actually added some controller support for the game though. But then they haven't updated it since the pre patch...

Got one cheap for 30 at gamestop. I still use it sometimes, actually worked really well for FF14 once I tweaked the sensitivity on it and found a good layout someone made.

But it's very niche IMO and was not worth the full cost it originally came out in. I'm not surprised it basically flopped.

I don't know who they're trying to market this new device to at all.

My guess would be yes, but don't rush out and buy a Deck for that specific purpose 100% expecting it.
